An Ottawa dispatch indicates that Wiggin is in an unhappy state of mind, ' taaaev Dersons because of the failure of his predicted great storm. According te .soother dispatch, however, Wiggins post pones his cataclysm until this afternoon .and te morrow morning. The mischief that has been done by his vaticinatiens in certain quarters is shown by a telegram from Gloucester, Mass., says : "The less te these dependant en the lisheries by the ;term scare will reach $125,000. Over three million Deunds of fish might have ibeen taken this season." - A telegram from St. Jehns, New Brunswick, says fishing schooners want out yesterday Herning, the gale having abated. The weather in New England yesterday morning was unusually cold for the sea en. the temperature in some places being SO degrees below zero. A dispatch from Machias, Maine, says this is the coldest March en record in that region. Fer twelve days the temperature has ranged from zero t6 20 below. Yesterday morn ing it was 14 below. The worst snow and wind storm of the seasen, is reported -along the line of the Northern Pacific railroad. West of Farge, freight business 'is entirely suspended, and passenger trains moved with ditticulty. in uraicen, Dakota, business was suspended during the day. Owing te a heavy gale the tide of the Clyde is remarkably low. The steameiB Devenia, Circasbia, Maniteban and several ethers were at one time aground. The Hull fishing ileet has suffered seriously by the gale. Eighty vessels of the fleet have arrived there in a damaged condition. Twelve of them lest members of their crews. Thrce vessels foundered, dne of them with all bauds. Similar accounts have been received from the Yarmouth fishing fleet. A Call for MlMlenarlea. N. Y. Correspondence 1'ubllc Ledger. There is an urgent call for young men as missionaries te China, with complaints that there is a disposition, se far as the Episcopal church is concerned, te overlook that field, en the assumption that Budd hism and Cenfuciusism, the;prevailing re ligiens of Eastern Asia, contain se much that is geed and se much that is identified wrth Christianity that it were as well net te disturb them at present en the principle J that it is the part of wisdom te " let well enough alone." This, at least, is the sub stance of a complaint in this week's Churchman from Rev. Dr. Schereschew- .sky, missionary bishop of Shahghai, who is just new stepping at Geneva, Switzer land, with a view of recruiting impaired health. He says : " Fer mere than twenty r. vears I havs been a student of Buddhism ; I have talked with hundreds cf Buddhist priests and monks, Chinese, Mongolian and Thibetan ; I have visited many Budd hist temples, and have even lived in such ; therefore, I feel competent te state that a mere gigantic system of fraud, supersti tion and idolatry than Buddhism, as it is new, has seldom been inflicted' by any false religion upon mankind." The bishop concludes with an earnest appeal te the church te substantiate her apostolic claim by stimulating her missionary energies te supplant paganism with the gospel of Christ, adding : " All I ask of any cler gyman called of Ged te offer himself for work is, that he shall conform te the rub rics and te the prayer book standard." i A Terrible Accident. Capt. Mayet, acelebrated Spanish aero naut. was recently killed by falling from a balloon in Madrid. He made an ascen sion accompanied by another person Suddenly the balloon descended rapidly. His companion was at the time in the baker, while he was doing monkey busi ness en a trapeze swinging beneath. The ' person in the basket had net sufficient presence of mind te threw out some bal lasts, and before Mayet could climb up te de se he was violently dashed against the reef of a house. The trapeze was tern loose by the blew, and he plunged hem long into the street, striking upon a third story balcony in his descent, bounding t from it te another lower down, and land ing en the sidewalk. He was horribly mutilated, but lived for several, hour?, without, however, regaining his consciousness. Household Market. DAIRY.
