Bat ha knows his lights ami will defend tLsm te the htl of his ability, ami anieug tae diflercnt mi.thei!F at his com mand te establish them is the use of the. barbed wire fue. A tvne tvne spendent of Ferest and Stream, Mr. Albeit Dennell, of Bidilufetd, Maine, in replying te another correspondent, who denounces this fence en tbi very ground, gives ex -picssien t these j-ei.:ible views : "Although 1 am neither landowner nor hunter, there tire one or two points which desire le make en this .subject. First, I knew ficm a varied and extensive expe rience in the Wett, that a plain wire fcuce even though it has a rail or pole at the lop, 't iiOt Ly any means as effectual a fence as is the baibcd who fence. Cattle toen leaiti te erawl through a plain wire fence, and the wiies cannot be stiained tight enough te pi event this. Second, the barbed wire fence is net, en the whole, intich if any meie dangerous than fences of ether kinds. In the neighborhood where I resided in the West, the only cattle which v:ere ever te my knowl edge permanently injured by wire fences, weic injured by plain wire fences, and I bave known many mere inju ries resulting from beaiel and rail fences and from stone wall?, than from wire fences of any kind. Third, it is noticeable that the opposition te the barbed wiie i fences comes net from the owners of the l fences, but fiem philanthropists who have mere pity for brecchy cattle than for haid-werking farmers, and from gentle men of red and gun, inauy of whom bave a decided proclivity for scouring premihcs where they are net wanted." In r. little while longer the barbed wire fence will become se popular as te be generally prefeired te all ethers, en the grounds waited ; and many perseus who were originally opposed te it bitterly, doubtless from what Ihey considered te be the best of reason, will be surprised that they bheuld have been se short sighted, and will be among the strongest advocates of it. The Judge Illinseir Was t'e-sied. Indianapolis Sentinel. As illustrating some of the lemaikable laws of Indiana en the subject of diverce Hen. Thaddeus P. Rollins l elated a steiy of a diverce which he piecured in Cass county Eome years tince before Judge Chase'. The allegations in the complaint were drunkenness and general worthless -ncss of the defendant. When the case came en a witness was calleel te prove the character and habits of the defendaut. Mr. Rollins asked him the question "De you knew 3Ir. . the defendant in the case, Mr. Baird ?" The' answer was in the affirmative. At this point Judge ChaEO looked up and said : " Mr. Baird, tell me if that man is the same Mr. who was in company K, of the Indiana regi- itnent eluring the war ? " " The same man judge," was the answer. J"" Yeu need go no further, Mr. Rollins," said the judge, " the divorce is granted," and judg ment was entered accordingly for the .plaintiff. After court adjeurutd the judge was joked about the hasty entry of the judgment, referring te the fact that i e evidence had been' introduced into the case. " Why, gentlemen," saidhishoner "I knew that fellow. He was in my com pany during the war, and I will never let a woman live with him if she asks me for a divorce. I knew him better than 'any witness that can be brought here." De Ten Believe It.
