FENIAN ASSASSINS.
THIS STORY OF THE DUBLIN HUBDKBS
The Informer ltelaiea the Tragedy Prepa
rations Fer the Crime The Pris
oners Dejected.
la the progress of tbe trials at Dublin
en Saturday the informer, Carey, testified
that be bad joined the Feuian Breth
erhoed in 18G3, and that he bad always
eeen the treasurer 01 us muds, which
were in a bad state. " Because you pock
eted them," iuterruiite' one et tbe wit
nesses. During bis connection with tbe
society several persons weie tried by a
court martial of the organization. Up te
leii) informers only wens tried. Edward
3IcCaffrey was, prier te November, 1881,
a member of tbe organization. In tbat
mouth he breughtWalbh te Ctrey's beuse.
Walsh, who was from tbe North of Eng
land, told Carey tbat bis mission in Dub
lin was te make bi&teiy. The names of
four persons bad been submitted te tbe
organization in Londen is capable of
heading tbe organization in Dublin.
Among these names was his own. Walsh
had sworn him in, e:ich holding a knife in
bis hand. The oath bound Carey te obey
all orders transmitted te htm by the Irish
Iuvincibles, under tbe penalty of death.
A lew days afterw.ud Walsh. McCaffrev
and James Mullett told him thattbey
wcrote form a beard of directors of a new
organization in Oubliu of Iuvincibles,
w he were net te exceed 2)0 members for
the whole kingdom.
There were te be selected from picked
Fenians and the Dublin branch of the or
ganization was te consist of fifty members
and its object was te " remove" all ty
rants. James Mullett, who established
the society for the Extirpation of Tyrants,
was te be chairman, and Mr. Ferstor aud
Earl Cowper were named among these
te be removed. Relative te the further
operations of tbe Dublin branch, it was
te be left te his own discictien. Walsh
gave the wituess t;."0. Mr. Burke's name
was subsequently mentioned among them
selves. Irrepariug ler Assaeiitnatleu.
Arrangements v;ere made for taking the
house at Cerk Hill, close te Dublin Cas
tle, from which Earl Cowper was te be
shot. Early in December the witness went
te Phoenix Park with Cuiley, and there
met Mullett aud Walsn, who were watch
ing the chief secretary's heuse. The wit
ness saw the brothers of Mr. Ferbter and
Burke coming out. The lour principals
in the mouth of December selected men
for the work in Dublin. The witness
selected a niau n.imed Leenard and
Stephen, the last named being an Ameri
can. McCaflit-y selected Deyle. The
greater number of men were selected by
Curley and Mullett, the. latter's principal
selectien being Brady. 'By July, 1882, the
Invinoibles numbered about thirty.
In December, 1881, he (Carey) was in
troduced at the Augel hotel te P. J.
Sheridan, who was disguised as a priest,
and passed by the name of Father Mur-
pny. Sheridan told him that he was ex
tending tie .society and Iuvincibles
throughout tbe ceuutry, and premised te
send him some weapons from Londen.
The society watched days and nights te
murder Mr. Feister. On one occasion he
escaped by waiting aboard a steamer at
Kingsten. I'iiey waited for him until the
last railway train had left. He recollected
the sheeting of MacMahen. Previous te
tbat time an arrangement had been made
te remove Mr. Ferster at the corner of
Jehn street, en his way te the castle. A
tar was stationed at the park gate. With
himself were Leenard, MacMahen, Brady,
Kelly, Curley and Martin. He, Carey,
gave tbe signal when Mr. Ferster passed.
Mr. Ferstor's carriage was te be preceded
by Fitzgerald's cab, according te tbe ar
rangement, but the plan failed through
the negligence of a watcher named Row
ley. Curley reprimanded Bewley, and
watched for Mr. Ferster en his return
from tbe castle, but this time there was a
failure en the part of the signal cab.
On three ether occasions the murder of
Mr. Ferster was prevented by the acci
dental passing of a party of mounted
police. Carey testified tbat he himself
suggested the use of knives, aud McCaf
ferty directed them te wiud cords around
the handles te strengthen their grip
Frank Byrne was a member of the confed
eration, and his wife brought at oue time
six knives, and at atetLr lour and a rifle,
concealed under her cloak. Curley became
chairman after Mullett's arrest, and
Bradley succeeded Curley in the council.
The murders of Perster aud Burke were
discussed at Mullett's bouse.
McCafferty's successor was known only
as " Ne. 1," and was evidently a military
man. He always gave the money and
" said there was no limit. They could
have 1,000 if they wished." 'The con
spirators often talked among themselves
as te the seurce of the money. Sema
thought it came from America, but Carey
himself thought :t. came from the Land
League.
Planning the l'ark Murder.
On the night Mr. Ferster left Ireland,
fifteen Iuvincibles actually followed him
te the Westlaud Rew station. Curley
looked into the cars, but only saw Mr.
Ferstor's wife aud daughter. The fifteen
Invincibles were under the command of
Curley en this occasion, who was obeying
the orders of the mysterious "Ne. 1." As
Mr. Ferster bad definitely left Ireland,
they were told te concentrate their atten
tien upon Mr. Burke. Carey weut te the
Park en May 5. Fitzharris met "Ne. 1"
opposite the Vicn Real Ledge. There
were also there Patrick Delancy, Tem
McCaffrey, Cusl6y, Brady, Smith and Ka
vanagb, for the purpose of meeting Mr.
Burke and " removing " him. On
this occasion Mr. Burke accidentally
escaped by taking an unusual route. All
the conspirators en the 6th of May met in
or about the Royal Oak tavern, except
Mullett, who was in prison. There were
also two men named Dwyer, ene of whom
has gene te America. On the morning of
May 6th he (Carey) met Smith, a laborer,
employed about the Castle, and who
knew Mr. Burke's appearance. Kava
nagh's testimony was confirmed by the
witness regarding the car being at Wren's
public house, with Brady, Keely, McCaf
frey and Delaney. Carey took bis two
little children with him in the cab early
en the 7th of May, when he went te the
park, and was accompanied by Jeseph
Hanlen and Smith.
Amid breathless silence, Carey then
related hew he saw the seven conspirators
meet Lord Cavendish and Secretary Burke.
Curley, Hanlen and Fagan went first,
Brady and Kelley followed, and McCaffrey
and Delaney came after. Lord Cavendish
and Burke were allowed te pass through
the three fust, and the last four faced
light about. When the witness again
looked he saw the two rear men close in
en their victims. " I saw Jeseph Brady
raising his hand," said Carey " and strik
ing a man dressed in gray. That was all
1 8w." After the murder he and Brady
and Curley met at McCaffrey's house.
"Ne.l" was there and they told him every
thing. The next night but one after the
murder, the knives with which they had
been committed were produced by Brady.
" Ne 1" ordered them te be destroyed.
The blades were broken and the handles
burned.
Previous te the murder he waited at the
Pole grounds, and was summoned thence
by Curley, who said he did net knew at
what moment they might be wanted.
Cnrley told him te tell Smith te "go te
bell out of this," and the murderers then
held a council. He asked Brady what he
should de and' was told te go off. Before
going he said : "Mind and be sure it is
the man in the gray suit." He timed his
movements accurately during the day,
and what happened in tbe park was at
7:17 p. m. As he went off toward Island
Bridge the victims were 200 yards away,
and en the bridge he met Smith, who was
acquainted with Burke's appearance, and
had accompanied him for the purpose of
pointing him out. It was Smith who told
Kavanagb te hurry up and take the nose
bag off the horse. Carey declared that
Smith did net knew what he was wanted
for, and that he said this te save an inno
cent man.
After the Murder.
At the meeting at McCaffrey's house,
Brady said : "Lord Frederick Cavendish
when he spoke, struck me with an umbrel
la. I then made at him. He held up bis
arm and I struck it. He then ran into tb
read." He also said that he struck Mr.
Burke, first in the left shoulder. The
ether gentleman came up and called him a
ru ffian. He ran after him and settled him .
He then looked around and saw Kelly
coming away from Burke's body, and he
and Brady went and cut Burke s threat.
At the house Curley also told him
(Carey) that he had at first feared there
was going te be another failure, when he
saw the men face about. Three of them
were armed. Brady had two knives alter
the murder. Curley saw Brady wiping a
knife en the grass. Curley waited until
the murderers were en the car, and then
get into a cab and came te Dublin. He
put a card into tbe box of the Dublin Ex
press office stating what had been done.
The next day he gave similar notices te
the Times and the Freemaria Journal. The
cards read : " Executed by order of the
Irish Invincibles."
Carey's evidence concluded with details
concerning the checks sent te the prison
ers while incarcerated as" suspects " in
Kilmainham jail by the sustenance fund
committee of the Land League. Carey in
June last handed te " Ne. 1 " his resigna
tion as one of the four leaders et the In
vincibles. During the giving of the testimony
relating te the murder Brady crouched
down behind two of the ether prisoners.
The ethers appeared dejected, except
James Mullett, who were a defiant leek.
Before the adjournment of the court Carey
formally identified all the prisoners.
Several of them as they came forward
called him a " perjured liar." Patrick
Delaney, who appeared very ill, said
solemnly : " That is the man," pointing
te Carey, " I may thank for all my mis
fortunes from childhood."

A BBATK AND FAITHFUL UUARDIAM
OF OUR HOMES AND PROPERTY
BESCUED FBOM IMMI
NENT PERIL.
A vjcbt popular and well-known member of
our police force, who has performed duty
twelve years at the Union R. B. Depot, en Ex
change Place, In Providence, B. I., gives his
unsolicited testimony. Hear him :
" I have been dreadfully troubled with dis
ease of the Kidneys and Liver during the past
six months ; at times 1 was se severely atniuted
that I was unable te stand en my feet, as my
feet and lower parts of my legs were very
badly swollen : my urinary organs were In a
dreadful condition, my bleed was In a wretched
state, and it had become se Impoverished and
circulated se poorly that my hands and feet
would be cold and numb and se white as te ap
pear lifeless. I could net rest nights, but was
se distressed all ever that I could net llestilli in
bed, but would keep turning and rolling from
one side te the ether all night, se that 1 would
feci mere urea ana exnausieu in me morning
than when I want te bed. My condition be
came se serious that I was obliged te step
work, and for thirty days I was unable te be en
duty. I consulted the best docters.and tried the
numerous medicines and se-called cures, but
rapidly grew worse, and was In a sad condition
every way when a long-time valued friend of
mine, prominent In this city in a large express
company, urged me te try Hunt's Remedy, as
he bad known of wonderful cures effected by
It. Upen his representation I obtained two
betUes of the Bemetly aud commenced taking
it as directed, and greatly te my surprise In
less than twenty-lour hours I commenced te
jeel relieved. I was in an awful condition
when I began te take the Remedy, and had no
faith In it ; therefore, when 1 found almost
immediate relief, even in one day's use et It.
hit heart was made triad anil I assure you I
continued te take the Remedy and te Improve
constantly from day te eay. 1 took it with
me en my trip te Maine for I was bound te
have it with me all the time, and the result Is
tbat I Improved speedily all the time I was
away ; and ever since my arrival home, which
was several weeks age, I have been en euty
every day. 1 ieet first-rate, and the swelling
et hand, teet and legs have disappeared, and
the terrible backache, which used te bother
me mere than all the rest, troubles me no
mure, and I sleepsplendldly nights, undsurely
have very excellent and forcible reasons ler
speaking in praise et Hunt's Bsniedy, for It
has made a new man et me. I don't knew
what 1 should have done without Uunt's item
ed v ; It is the best medicine that I ever took,
and 1 very gladly recommend It te all who
are alUicted with Kidney or Liver diseases, or
diseases et the Urinary Organs.
Respectfully.
