Let ilia, daughter of Chailes MaeXamce,
living in Applcten row, Nerlh ward,
Phiciiixviile, was shot dead by Matthew
Haitigan, a neighbor. The g'ulhad bren
te the le.sidence of a neighbor atlhv east
ein end of the row ; .she left there. pushed
her home and proceeded te the le.sideuce
of Haitigan in the western end of the
row. Exactly as she enteieii the yaid in
front of his house a shot was filed tin entili
the fient window. The sill fell crying
" Mamma." She was picked up dc .d
and carried te her home.
It appears there was a paity of young
people spending the evening at I I.u tigan'si,
who were in eiu loom while he wis in
another. He called his wife, told her he
was going te lite his gun through the
window te frighten the visitors, and Ilia'
she should net be frightened. He told a
young man in the room that, the gun was
leaded with a mat bio. lie fired, as he
