handsome presents, several beautiful

couple. Tiiesc weie present en this occa
sion the two hiidemaids, Mrs. Mary
Fisher, formerly Miss Mivy Diller, new
residing in Chambcisburg. and Miss Eliza
Stalil. Mr. aud Mrs. luheff leek re
markably well, and the many friends in
dulge in the hope that there aic yet many
ycair. of useful ami happy life before
them. Mr. luheff was born near Lancaster
city in 1S10. Mrs. Tuheff is a native of
Lancaster citv. The marriage took place
Febiuary 11, SW. In 1837 Mr. Inhoff
moved te Carlisle, wheie he has since re
sided. Aflt-r spending an hour or two the
guests departed, having passed a very
interesting and enjoyable evening.

Mrs. Esther Cettrell, widow of the late
Jeseph Cettrcll, of Columbia, died en
Sunday at the residence of her daughter,
Ida, tlie wife of Mr. Boyd, at Danville.
The body pa-ed through Lancaster to
day en the way te Columbia, where the
funeral took place this afternoon from the
Presbyteiiau chinch. Mrs. Cottrell was
very well known and very gieatly beloved
in Columbia, where her life has been
passed, and her death will be greatly
mourned. She was the mother of Mr.
Jeseph Cettrcll, of Denegal Furnace, and
of Duncan Cet'rell, a member of our bar.

About a mouth a;e the trustees of tlie
Fimt Tu. K. church, North Duke Btrcet,
lenevated, rejiainted and refurnished the
lect'iie room of their church, and
since that time they have held their
fervices in the lecture room, aud at once
commenced making improvements en the
body of tlie chinch. Tlicse improvements
are almost completed, and services will be
held in the pricipal auditorium en Sunday
next. The iecei-s in rear of the pulpit has
been newly fiescecd, and the frescoing
of ether portions has been retouched.
The pulpit platform, the chancel, the
aisles and the pews have been handsomely
carpeted, and the pulpit, pewp, gallery rail
ink', and, indeed, all the woodwork of the
church, lias been newly grained in walnut
and varnished, and the stairways aud ves
tibule:; are covered with new cuoea mat
ting. The interior of the building from
top te bottom leeks bright and cheerful,
and will, no doubt, be a much mera pleas
ant place in which te worship than before
these needed improvements were made.

conference of Republican senators was
kald this morning for the purpese of dis
cussinu the general situation iu view of the
eai! passage of the tariff bill by the Sen
ate. The general pregramme agreed
upon some days since by the caucus com
miltee was approved, and it was decided
te invite a conference en the part of the
Republicans of the Heuse, either through
a joint caucus or the caucus committees of
each body, for the purpose of deciding
upon some plan by which action upon the
tariff bill can be reached and its Gnal pass pass
age secured. A'e votes were taken, as no
prepositions were submitted requiring any.
The complications and difficulties of the
situation weic recognized and it was ad
mitted that soma understanding between
the two Houses should be had at onee and
conceit of action secured.

year was about 4,908,000 tens, as
