LANCASTER DAILY INTEJLL1GEKCEK, SATURDAY, JANUARY 27. 18b3. Lancaster jjjntelligencct. SATURDAY EVENING JAN. 27. 1883, A FKISONKU'S BUSK. Eating Seap and Becoming be Emaciated That the Doctors TVera Uecelvea. A ease almost unprecedented in Ohie has just occurred in the office of Governer Fester, at Columbus, which is no mere or less than the revocation of a pardon un conditionally granted by Governer Fester en the 19th of October last. The party is Isaac Knapp, who at the October term. 1877, of the Sandusky common pleas court, was convicted of murder in the second degree and sentenced te the peni tentiary for life. The pardon was granted en the certificate of Dr. Gay, who said the convict was suffering from tuberculeus degeneration of the lungs 'and was in im minent danger of death. Warden Themas coincided with the views of Dr. Gay. It has been recently ascertained that the pardon was secured by fraud, and that Knapp had been chewing soap for some time in tbe prison, thus causing the frothy, sickly hue of his countenance, which might be mistaken for tuberculeus degeneration of the lungs. Immediately after reaching home Knapp boasted hew he " beat the pen," as he termed it, and in a few days he was apparently as well and hearty as any man in Fremont. lie loved te tell the modus operandi of his anti-fat process, and dilated en the way he ate the bard soap furnished te con victs. Since bis pardon he has been in all kinds of trouble at Fremont, ruling every body and everything with a high hand, and it was en the petition of a large num ber of prominent citizens of that place that the action of the governor was pre dicated. But once before in the history of Ohie has such a course been taken. During the administration of Governer J. D. Cox, a similar thing was done and the prisoner returned te the penitentiary. Legal ad vice taken by Governer b ester has been te the effect that as the paiden was secured by fraud, it is without any force or effect and Knapp was, therefore, an escaped convict. He has been taken into custody. ,"OId blids aie net caught with cliatr." Thercfeie i-cek and flint the pure Rnlilen grains et health in Riuney-Weit. Women, young or ehl, man oil or single.
