Another weed of comparative inactivity
has passed. It differed from- last week
onlvinthis respect that at best some
nrMiwiim linvprs decried to examine
tnhen. esneciallv '81 Pennsylvania
Thix tobacco, now fully matured, is, as
whole, far superior to its predecessor.
Some of the wrappers aro almost faultless,
while some of the crops for which high
prices have been paid have turned out
shriveled, hard and full of white veins.
For the few holders ot the really fine por
tion of this tobacco there exists a chance
of coming out of their investment with
probably a little financial scratch in their
favor ; but those who own only Itdifferent
Racks may as well make up their minds
at even the most prosperous condition
of the cigar trade will not help to swell
their stock, except at an enormous sacri
fice. The same statement will apply to all
of the other '81 crops. The exceptionally ,
fine only stands a chance of securing some
thing of a profit slight at that for the
investors. Everything else will be a drug
in the market
The enormous Btock of seed leaf on
hand and Sumatra are and will be the
causes.
The sales ol the week were : 330 cases,
'30 Pennsylvania, fillers, 0 to 7 c. ; running
11 to 14c.
200 cases, '81 Connecticut, partly sec
onds, at 13o. ; partly wrappers, at 28 to 30
cents
10( '81 Wisconsin, Havana seed,
at 19j.
200 cases, '81 Ohio, fillers, 3'c. ; running
