for the commonwealth in the mysterious
Highspiro murder case, in which William
Androws is charged with murder
ing and burning his wifo was con
cluded at twelve o'olock to-day and
the defouso went to the jury without sub
mitting any evidence. The commonwealth
proved by expert testimony that the charred
matter found in the burned building was of
an animal character and that the blood on
the defendant's clothes was tho blood
of either an animal or a human being. It
is on this point that the caso rest?, and
on account of which so much interest is
manifested in the trial. The defense in
closing endeavored to impress upon the
jury that the wifo was still alive, that her
remaius had not been found and that a
convictiou could not therefore be estab
lished.

Sheriff ulurtln's First Whipping.
Wilmington, Del., Nov 25. Sheriff
Martin, who was chosou at tho recent
election, had his first whipping at New
Castle, this morning. Isaac llayden,
Frank Mullen aud James Stewart, con
victed of larceny, wcro given ten lushes
each, and Robert Lynn aud Henry Ma
gruder, for highway robbery, forty lashes
each. Mngruder suffered considerably,
but Lynn affected to care very little.
