LANCASTER DAILY ryTELLlGEXCER, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 18. 1882. Lancaster intelligencer. SATURDAY SVXNINQ, NOV. 1?. 1832. TKIPLK WEDDING IN KENTUCKY. Tbr MltlW Harried en the Vorcb ot their rUHt' Host. Near Batfar, Ptadleton county, Ky., in a quiet, old-fashioned farm house, pictur esquely titaited, there was an interesting triple wedding on Wednesday. The brides were the Misses Celia, Hetty and Lucy Phillips, daaghters of Palmier Alfred Phillips, and the bridegrooms were Messrs. Will N. Pieroy, John Thomas and Alvin Bradford. The ceremony was per forsaed on the porch to allow the father, who is on his death-bed, to witness it through the window. The three couple stood in line while the Rev. W. R. Van hood of Christian church, officiated. He prefaced the ceremony with these words : "Beloved, we have assembled this morning in the presence of God and these witnesses to celebrate the right of matri mony. It is not good for man to be alone. The sturdy oak of the forest is not left alone. God has provided the root and vine ' with tendrils to entwine about the branches as a mutual protection against the storms of summer. So is given woman, with her tendrils of love to en twine about man's heart as a mutual pro tection against the storms of life. Woman was gives as a helpmeet for man, but not to till his lands, drive his oxen or delve in his mines. He who so treats her will find his fields growing up with briers and brambles, his home and everything about it dreary and uncomfcriable. The beauty sent to gladden his soul will quickly fade, the heart intended as a fountain of happi ness will be turned into bitterness, and the change will ever be a source of strife. Thesacredness of marriage was recognized by our Saviour, for he attended the mar riage feast ot Cans of Galilee, when the water said, 'It's the Lord,' and blushed and became crimson wine." He then briefly performed the marriage ceremony with the three couples success ively. The brides are tall, pretty bru nettes. All the parties are good sub stantial people. The attendance was large. A DECLINE OK OIL. Tiie Market Badly Broken toy a Hew Flowing- Well la Forest County. The principal cause of the decline in prices of oil yesterday was a report of a new well in Forest county, not far from the line of Warren county. The well is lo cated a short distance southwest of Fox burg, in Forest county, on the somewhat celebrated Cooper tract, which is about two miles in length and a little less than a mile in width. Between the Cooper tract and the Forest county line is a portion of the Witting property, an equal portion of which is on each side of the county line. On the eastern portion of this, just south of the county line, is the Clark & Foster well. This well reached the sand some time ago, and after producing at a liberal rate was drilled through the sand and is now doing about eighty barrels per day. On the southwest corner of the Cooper tract is the original Cooper well. It was plugged about two months, during which time it flowed 73 barrels a day. When the plug was drilled out the well started off at 225 barrels a day. It is now producing 52 barrels per day. In the centre of the tract, on the line between the Cooper well and tbo Clark and Foster well, is the new well, owned by the Anchor oil company. It tapped the sand some time ago, but was plugged. The present excitement over it was caused by drilling out the plug. From the best information obtainable it is now understood to be producion at the rate of 500 and COO barrels daily. The market opened Friday morning at $1.25 and was as low during the forenoon as $1.12 . The fluctuations were wild, ranging from $1.14 to $1.19, closing at $1.15?. The sales were 10,000,000 barrels. MYSTERIOUS Articles with High SeaailBg, Crack-Jaw Names are Not a Success. A REFRESH! CHAM. To Plain English. Every reader of newspapers has observed time, and again, in the advertising columns, many singular and frequentiy.unpronounca ble names ot medicinal remedies. The Greek and Latin languages especially have been drawn upon to furnish names by which pat ent medicines could be Introduced to the public. The Inference Is, in many cases at least, that the proprietors depend more upon the attraction of high sounding titles than upon 1he essential merits ot the remedies themselves. It Is refreshing once In a while to find a medicine advertised, whose simple Intelligi ble name in English at once conveys to the reader an understanding of ths uses and pur poses of the remedy. A notable Instance ot this kind is found in the medicines ot Dr. C. W.
