It lias often hecu ietaaikcd tLat there
aic people whom no kind of weatber or no
eeax.u of the year suits. To please such
mortals when it rains it thould bo clear ;
wh n it is cold it should be warm, and
when, if it could be botb, it should be
temperate, and then, with all this errati
caliK"H. they would not be satisfied. How
sued j tjub live is a problem past finding
out.
But .mo thin; is plain : tliey fail to .see,
Bpruiid iu lavibh display, the beauties ol
that very nature at vrhieh they to contin
uity crumble. Take-, for instance, the
prci-snt ncason of the year ; .how little
they uppicciate its gloried, and yet what
time in the whole twcho months is so rich
with joy and beauty :' The forests on
mountains and in valleys are never so ex-quj-'.tf
in color as they are now. The rare
var-esniion of colyr. the gorgcrous pre
Fenttion of a whole wood clothed ia its
autii:iia garb, aaci the pleasures incident
to this time of the year are all lost on the
)i..l sensibilities of thssu ohro.i'm fault
finder. But the present is a time ofmiilh and
satisfaction to those who aie lational
enuh toecjoy it. The citizens of N'jw
York vff;Jl remember "his fact, because it
isboiaieto tlem ; tL." citizens of Lititz
ma "orirct it treatise i' is so comniv.j to
theui. !r us rnumei-att- some of tbfse
delists. Who has not felt the blood
tin! it: bis veins, his heart bound witji
gladt.fi-s anrt his mind relieved of hir
rasing earcs wlinn, upon a brisk, frosty
nioniinjj, he .joins a company of friends
and takes a jaunt out among the gaudy
woods and fruits of fall? There, as
we see, araiJs; n gLiious assemblage
of gaudy trees, the red maple with its
brown and or.in.je. and the yteat df'
wood bathed in its bright blood cilor, and
countless othersc'otLe 1 iu gold and crimen
and yellow and blended tint., it seems as
if all the glory and leaiity of heaven had
fallen on mother erih. And then, if the
party is bent upon gathering the geneious
fruit of autumD, what fun it is to climb
high into the well-laden branches and
shake the chestnuts, the walnuts or the
shell barks to the ground, and see iLe
scared squirrel lush Irom the limbs and
scamper away through the iustling'!eaves!
Then, too, at this season there are doings
about the firm-homo rich in pleasure
and benefit, There is the apple butter
boihnjr, with its roaring fire, big kettle
and louir ladle, all surrounded by blush
ing la&tes and stuidy 'ads. paring the red
apples and slyly casting su-jgestivc glances
into happv eyes. Aud there, also, arc
corn hubking parties, with heaps if golden
ears piled here and there, while joyous
vo;c?s drown the rustlirg of the lifeless
stalk. Ah, a brave season of hilarity and
contentment is the welcome autumn. It
is a time when men and women mingle
together and feel tbe purest joy. The
wealth of the farmer is garnered in his
barns, the toil and heat of the summer are
over. aud. safe with the unstinted gifts of
nature, the homely, jet most unalloyed,
enjoyment .f the rural household are
given full indulgence, and all are bettered
by their influence.

M III Dry Goods stone,
fl-lydl LANCASTER, PA,
Our exhibit in the Trades Procession of the Bi-Centennial
Celebration on October 25th will illustrate the
great stock of men's and boys' clothing now ready in
Oak Hall. Our preparations for the trade of this Au
tumn and Winter already reach
One Million Dollars.
Our stock is in all respects the best we have ever
offered, and we firmly believe has never been equaled
in volume by any retail clothing house in America.
Do not fail to visit Oak Hall. Look at the Clothing
and Piece Goods, go through the workrooms and see
how the vast place goes on. We have a hearty wel
come for all, whether buyers or visitors. The tens of
thousands of friends we have made in the country
about Philadelphia during the last twenty-two years
are, we are sure, more firmly our friends than ever be
fore. We have gained their confidence by giving them
the best dollar's worth of clothing to be had anywhere,
and we offer a new pledge of fidelity in our low prices
and elegant Autumn stock of this year's sales.
