A.t the Washington honso on Saturday
evening Auctioneer C. H. Zcller, sold the
property of Henry Lichty, deceased, cor
ner of West Donegal and New Haven
streets, to A. S. Root, of this boroogh,for
$1,380.
At the same time and place the frame
dwelling belonging to Mrs. Jacod Swords,
was sold to Mrs. John Gable, formerly or
Lancaster, for $500.
The west end bakery will change hands
on next Monday, C. L. Eby having Bold
his interest to William Scholing, who
carried on the business at tho same stand
one year ago.
George Lindcmuth, young married
man formerly of this place, aud a late res
ident of Middlctown, is dead. He will be
bui i2l at this place on Tuesday after
uoon.
Several hundred persons witnessed a
game of baseball between the Actives and
aninoofboys from the Soldiers' Orphan
schools on Saturday afternoon. It was an
exciting game up to the eighteenth iuniug,
when by safo batting the town boys took
tho lead winning by the following score :

Mrs. Christian Hershcy and son are vis
iting friends at York.

The Mews Around Ucorgctowu.
A son of Thomas Williams, jr., had his
leg broken on Friday afternoon, tho 2Gth
inst., by being kicked by a cow. Only a
short time before the same boy nearly cut
his too off with an axe. Ho is aboul o
years of age.
B. P. Reed brought to tho postofflcc a
corn Btalk about 5 J feet long, upon which
at every joint spur roots have put out
from 1 to 4 inches in length. In tho 5
feet of stalk 13 joints havo sprouted.
Mr. R. 11. Englc has been in our neigh
borhood for the past two weeks taking
photographic views of residences aud
landscapes. Mr. Engle is a clerk for the
firm of Tatham & Co., of Philadelphia,
and spends his lcisuro time in this way.
He is also somewhat of an assayer, and
served an apprenticeship in North Carolina
at the typo case. II o is tho son of J. P.
Engle, of the firm of Euglo & Furling,
who conducted tho gonoral merchandise
business in Georgetown some fourteen
yeara ago.
Mr. Rudy Phenegar, formerly of this
neighborhood, now of Columbus, Ohio,
has been on a visit to relatives and friends
here.
Tho nickel furutccs closed out woik on
the 3d inst., and several more men are
now unemployed, but tho work on tbe
P. R. R. at Gap will no doubt give em
ployment to as mauy or them as chooso to
avail thotnsolvcs of tho opportunity.
Quito a number ot thoso who wero thrown
out of work by tho closing of the mines,
aro now at work at that place.
A slight frost was visible on Saturday
morning last.
Tobacco is all housed and mauy fai mors
havo their grain sown. Not much corn is
yet cut.
Martin & PriU havo had their 1830 to
bacco sampled.
Political matters aro very quiet. Every
one is looking forward to tho day that
Boavcr will visit Bart to tell them all
about it.
