LANCASTER DALLY INTELLIGENCER, FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 1882. Hanca-ster foitclltgenrci. FRIDAY EVENING, AUG. 25, 1882. HAKIMO LOVE IN TUB CBOIB. She &at on the steps ol the organ loft J nut after the second hymn ; And through nave and choir to the cool gray spire The sound rose taint and aim. As tbey settled themselves in the church below For the sermon that followed next. And I seated myseir at the alto's side As the parson took Ids text. I Marked the tender flush of her cheek, And tbn gleam of her golden hair, Tin; snowy kercblcr 'round her neck. And her throat all white and bare ; A throat so white that indeed it might An anchorite entice ; And I faintly heard the parson's word As he preached ot Paradise. My arm stole gently around her waist Until our lingers met ; And a flitting blush made the tender lluh Ot her cheek grower deeper yet. Snowy and fair the hand beneath, And brown the palm above. And the brown closed softly over the white As the parson spoke of love. Ab, who is wise when deep blue eyes Moot his and look coyly down ? Who would but drink, nor care to think Ot envy's Jealous frown ? Twas but to bend till 1 felt her bieath Grow warm on my cheek, and then My lips just hoilly touched her own, As the parson said Amen. J'fCl. m Atw Strawberry lied. Ccrmatitowu Telegraph. From time to time vo bavo said a great ileal on the subject of planting out new strawberry beds Many fail in their effort to hecuro beds that will yield them satis factory crops for at Joist tlnco or fou' years without resetting, for tbo reason that they do not go rielit about it. Of courso tho ground should bo rich, dug protty deep, made lino and f liable, and tho plautB, while they should not be hot deep, should bo firmly pressed into the soil. The plants must of courso, be youug, having never fruited ; and if they arc the product of other plants that have never fruited, by removing tho blossoms, they will bo all that could bo desired. This, however, requires labor which will not always be bestowed upon them. But what should always be done is to trans plant the youug vines it is not even too late yet iuto well prepared ground, or in pots, where they should remain two or three weeks, watered twico a clay, aud then tot out in the beds whero they are to rcmiii), say fifteen to eighteen inches apart; but before setting out surround the roots of each with a ball, not too com paet, of looso cartb, plant firmly, as wo have already said, and water frequently during tho warm weather ; cover lightly with straw tho last ot November, which should bo removed tho middle or last of March ; and thcu, if the bed is kepi clean of grass and weeds, and you aro not re warded with a full crop of lino berries givo up tho attempt to raiso them ever after. American Wheat. Gcrruantoiru Telegraph. From pieseut prospects it is estimated that the ciop ot wheat raised in the United Suites this year will yield in tbo aggregate about live hundred million bushels. The expectation of it has already commenced to Europe, aud what is .some what surprising, buyers aro here with orders to purchase wheat liberally for Southern France. This, however, is explained by tho statement lb at American wheat can bo laid down in Marseilles cheaper than wheat fiom the Black sea or from India. It is, true, this argues necessarily that the French harvest must again bo deficient to meet domestic demands in Franco for breadstuils : but in all probability the French grain dealers have found it best to follow tlio example of the same class of merchants iu London, by purchasing lib erally of foreign wheat early in the season without waiting to ascertain the chances of tho harvest in Franco. It is therefore, probable that wo shall hereafter always bo able to rely upon a permanent market iu Marseilles for our wheat crop, and that the French met chants at that port will gradually extend their operations to all parts of the Mediterran ean as tho leading factors for American wheat aud breadstuQs in the populous and important countries bordering on that sea. This probably results from tbo im mense piolits realized by the French mer chants in their vast operations in Ameri can wheat iu the year 18S0. Monroe, Mich., Sept. 25, 1875.
