Emanuel B. Schneider, a Germau priest, who recently came to Pittsburgh from tho South, has renounced the Catholic church, and on Sunday joined the Fifth Avenue Methodist Episcopal church of that city. In giving reasons to a large congregation for changing his faith, he related a story that some three years ago, while attending services in a Methodist Episcopal church in a Wis consin village, the music, harmony and delightful feeling impressed him with the deep conviction that that system of divite worship was best calculated to purify the spirit and lift up tho heart to God. The more he thought and studied ho became convinced that his own religion was not based firmly upon tbo work but upon the guesses and a chain of hypothesis and more or less the result of human think ing than divine revelation. The Rev. Mr. Schneider was) born in Bremen, Prussia, where he was educated. He came to the United States when quite young, studied theology and philosophy at St. John's college, Missouri, where he was ordained a priest in 1875. From that time until the present he has been work ing in the ministry, mostly traveling on account of impaired health. Beforo per mission was given him to join the Fifth avenue church, his documents were thor oughly examined by Bishop Andrews, of Washington, who has jurisdiction over the diocese of the Methodist church in which Pittsburgh is situated.
