Admiral Seymour telegraphed at 11 o'clock: last night that the lire in Alexandria was not spreading and that nearly all looting had stopped. A force of Germans have landed to protect the hospital and a party of Americans to establish a consulate. A dispatch to the Manchester Guardian from Alexandria says the bombarding of Tuesday almost exterminated the Egyptian corps of artillerymen, which was the best branch of the army. London, July 15., 1 p. M. In the House of Commons this afternoon Mr. Chamberlain, president of the board of trade, confirmed the rumor that Mr. John Bright has resigned tbe chancellorship of the Duchy of Lancaster. Sir Charles Dilke, under foreign secre tary, said the government has no inforrna tion as to Arabi Pacha's position. Order Restored In Alexandria. London, July 15 1 p. m. A dispatch to the Standard, dated Alexandria Satur day morning, says : " It is now possible to walk tbe streets without an escort. The cafes and shops are reopening and confidence is generally reviving." Admiral Seymour telegraphs at 10:20 this morning : " I am organizing a police force as fast as possible and I have oc cupied the gates and two forts." The Times in a leading article this morn ing says: "Whatever conclusions Mr. Bright may form in regard to his duty in this great crisis, he will be treated with re spect, but we hope that no divergence of opinion will definitely sunder him from the men with whom he has so long been associated." Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars Swept Away by the Destroying Element Somo of tbe Principal Sufferers. New York, July 15. The loss by the fire at Washington and Vestry streets last night was confined wholly to the property of the Holbrook manufacturing company, and the factory building in which it was contained. Tbe?o losses are total and foot up the sum of 8205,000. The amount of insurance is $124,850. Tie Moller, Syrup company, Washington street, was supposed to bo a heavy loser. Investigation to-day, however, showed tbat its machinery, engines, etc., were safe and intact. As tbc stock of the conceru bad just run entirely out there is practically no loss according to Mr. Moller's own statement and no insurance. The Hol brook manufacturing company estimates their losses as follows : Stock $110,000, machinery $20,000, office furniture, $6,000. The full amount of their insurance is $99, 350. Tbe building was the property of Isaac O'Dell cx-presidentof the Mechanics' bank. It cannot be replaced for less tban $60,000, and as it is totally destroyed the loss is put at that Ggure. It is covered by insurance to the amount of $35,000. Among the companies said to bo interest ed, are tho Greenwich, $1,000, Merchants, $249, Broadway, $10,000, and Continental, $7,500. Tho damage to tbe buildings Nop. 243 and 245 Pearl street by tbe fire last night is estimated to be between $6,000 and $7,000. The upper floor of Pearl sttee. building where tho fire started, occupied by Charles M. Cronwell as the Empire lithographing and printing compauy, I030 between (30,000 and $40,000. The first floor of 243 Pearl street is occupied by Isley, Doubledy & Co., paint and oil etc. dealers insured for $20,000 which they say will cover their loss. Wm. rgert, & Co. occupy the first floor of 245 Pearl street, and are tobacconists, insured for $43,000 which are chiefly by water. Louts C. Glover, cords and twines, who occupied a portion of the first floor of 243 Pearl street and also the first floor of No. 18 Pearl street, had his stock slightly damaged. He was insured for $10,000, which will more tban cover his loss. The Photo-Electrotype company, who occupy the upper floors, of tbe Cliff building, say their losses are comparative ly trifling. The insurance companies are busy trying to estimate the exact amount of the loss. Big Fire in Oregon. Portland, Or., July 15. A heavy lire was reported yesterday at the town of Colfax, Washington Ter. No particulars have been received as yet, but it is esti mated that tbe loss will not fall short of $150,000.
