The following tribute to Longfellow was written by Mr. Benjamin Wood Davis, formerly of Cincinnati, now of Boston : iohgfeixow. O unspoiled darling ot tliy native land, Beloved Poet who baa reigned so long Tim Idol or that counties, gratetul band Who Buffered, beard thy music and were strong. Tliy harp stands idle ; who will now beguile our grief with strains ot tenderness divine ? IVno will enchant us with the matchless style That dropped a lragrant rose In every line ? Who now In magic measures will reveal The tender secrets bid in human clay '.' What Joyous voice can better make ua leel Tbat Poetry is Reason's holiday? Alas ! how many glltcd ones havo lacked The deeds divine that fiom thy vorbes spring ! Ab. actors are so seldom what they act. And poets are not always what they sing. Thy verses and tby deeds are not apart. Two lovely twins iu their resemblance strong ; Thy poems were the throbbings ot thy heart. Imprisoned in the golden nets ol song. Although on Nature's gift thou couldst rely. Freed from the thorny loads oi industry. Each line was penned as ir llio sentry eye Ot Immortality were watching thee. 0 Poet, earliest read anil longest loved, a gratciul nation sadly from thee parts ; One nation ? Way, all whom tliy voice bath moved, Th e nationality of hiiinun hcaiti And I In debt for many a happy hour. How can ny large Indebtedness be paid .' 1 can but drop a lowly, lading flower Before a flower that can never die. Mr. Davis is a son of Lewis Davis, esq., of Cincinnati, and a cousin of Michael Davis the well-known tobacco buyer, of Lancaster. So well pleased were bis Cin cinnati friends with tbc poem that they have had it magnificently engrossed and illustrated by the artist Grafton for pre sentation to Mr. Wood. At the top of tho sheet he has painted in water colors a pro trait of Longfellow, the face set iu its frame of snowy beard, full of spirit aid poetic fire. A wreath of wild roses the eglantine of poetry drops at the left side and on right and in the midst of manu scripts labeled "Hyperian Voices of the Night," e'.o., tho poet's hai p stands idle. The donors arc prominent members of the Cincinnati bar and tho poet a distinguish ed member of tho Middlesex bar, Massa chusetts. FOUND AT LAST. A Clear, Black and Iurblo Ink We hivo been waiting for a long time to find an ink tbat would bo Iieefrom sediment and yet of decided daik color when first used, which would not thicken nor con ode the pen if left to dry on it, which would not mould if exposed to Ihe air, which would How freely from tho pen and yet not inundate the .nanuscript. Wc had well nijrh despaired of finding such an ink among tho fluids from time to time pressed upon our attention, each one of which had one ol tho required virtues to tlio exclu sion of tho otucis. But after a fair trial we acknowledge that a bottle of " W. K. Todd's government writing ink," received from Mr. C. II. Bai r and tested with iu credtiality has satisfied us that it fills tho bill. It is sold at tho reasonable price of 75 cents per quart and is furnished iu bottles which exclude tho air and keep the supply in excellent, condition until used up. Lome .Iaci:, Mo., Sept.
