Harrisburg, Pa., June 27. Every
train brings fresh accessions te the large
body of representative Democrats already
here. Prominent members of the party,
in addition te the delegates published, are
making their appearance as substitutes,
and all indications point te the ablest rep
resentative body ever assembled. The
best geed feeling prevails all around.
Hepkins and Pattison will lead at the out
set with Coxe and "Wolverton next, and
many scattering votes. Hepkins is stronger
and has mere chance than Pattison, as the
latter suffers from a fire in the rear, but
if the convention gets into a lock between
them, and there are any indications that
Coxe will accept, the convention is just as
likely as net te break and go te htm.
Everything is in doubt except that en
organization, credentials, rules, platform
and ether preliminaries the friends of
Hepkins, Coxe, Pattison and ethers will
come te a substantial agreement te-night
and all bitterness ever neu-csscntials will
be avoided. Everybody is delighted at

Uakrisiiurg, Pa., JuueiJ7. Delegates
are peuriug in from all pails of the state,
aud each train brings numbers of prominent
Democrats from various counties, net dele
gates but interested in the work of the
convention. Ex-Senater Wallace had net
arrived up te neon, but is expected this
p. m. Chairman Begcrt, it is stated.
wrote asking him and ex-Spcakcr Randall
te come here and help te get up the
platform. It is alleged that the
old warring leaders are net iu the field
against each ether, and that neither of
them is here te advance or hinder the in
terest ei any particular candidate, it is
remarked as being significant, however,
that while Iiandall preserves neutrality en
the surface his most trusted lieutenants
talk of Hepkins as being the strongest
mau. Kaudall personally is supposed te
be in favor of Pattison. The question as
te whether Senater Eckley B. Coxe is or
is net a candidate is adding te the general
uncertainty of the situation. The Pattison
people admit that with Coxe in the field
their canvass is rendered precarious.
An associated press correspondent asked
Senater Coxe this morning whether or net
he would be a candidate, lie replied that
he had been asked that question se often
and had been placed in se false a position
by the speculation en the subject that he
had determined te declare himself gen
erally and definitely, but the time had
net yet ceme te de se. Senater Coxe in
reply te a further question said he might
write a letter stating his position or he
might net, but that in any event thore
would be no room for misunderstanding
after he had delivered himself. The most
reasonable inference from this is that he
intends te positively decline te allow his.
name te go before the convention as a can
didate. Hepkins aud his lieutenants are confi
dent and feci sure that the first honors of
the convention will go te the ex-ceugrcss-man.
Senater Gorden has nut out a
small circular letter, giving the resolu
tions adopted in Philadelphia iu
favor of Pattison's candidacy, and the
vote showing the majority by which
Pattison carried Philadelphia against Re
publican candidates for the controllership.
The opinion is gaining ground that the
field with Hepkins iu it will combine
against Pattison, rendering the selection
et" a third man inevitable. Senater Jehn G.
Hall, of Elk, is spoken of as likely te be
an available compromise mau for the head
of the ticket.
Until the candidate for governor shall
have been named the rest of the ticket will
remain as a contingent, with the exception
of the secictaryship of internal affairs, for
which no contestant with Africa has yet
appeared.
GUITEAC'S LAST DATS.
Id Cheerful Spirits and Talking About the
BeaaUeceltbe Other World.
Washington. Jane 27. Guiteau retired
last night at his usual time, about half
past eight or nine. He slept well and
appears much refreshed this morning.
He ate heartily at breakfast and took
about half an hour's exercise in the cor cer
rider in front of the cell mostly at a low
walk but new and then patting
in Berne quick spirits. Then he returned
te his Bible, and as he did net yesterday
talk te the minister much en the subject
seiectea, tne iteveiatiena or at. Jehn,
be prepared himself for Dr. Hicks'
visit te-day by reading it. Dr. Hicks
arrived at the jail about half-past ten
o'clock, and spent about twenty minutes
with the prisoner. They talked about
Revelations and the beauties of the ether
world, and Guiteau spoke glowingly and
cheerfully of his future life, saying that
ue ion, assurea et nis reward. He also
told Dr. Hicks that he hoped the autheri
ties ttuuiu stay uis execution, Dut he was
ready te go if called.
Dr. Hicks left about 11 o'clock, promis premis
ing te call later in the day, and Guiteau
went out again into the corridor, attired
in his shirt and drawers only, and resumed
his exercise, walking with a regular step
for nearly an hour, and, from his ceunte
nance, be was evidently in deep thought.
While be was se engaged a number of
workmen were en the scaffold, fixing the
box and pulleys and getting it in order.
Mrs. Sceville and her little daughter
arrived in this city last evening. She is
inclined te be reticent as te her intentions
during her stay in Washington, but has
indicated her purpose te see the presi
dent and endeavor te induce him te grant
her brother a reprieve. She is unwilling
te say very much as te her iuteutiens, for
lcar that sonie measures will be adopted
by ethers te prevent her from doing
what she wishes. Of late she has
become very suspicious of nearly evciy
one anu Keeps ner own counsel, aud no
one knows exactly what she will de. She
says that -she will go te the jail and see
her brother as seen as she has done every
thing for him that is possible. It is her
intention te attend the execution if it
comes te that, and if she had any influ
ence with her brother some thrilling
events might be expected.
Mr. Reed, however, does net have the
same opinion of her mental condition as
Mr. Scevillo, and does net apprehend that
there will be any trouble en her account.
lie expected that she would ceme here,
but has net been in communication with
her. Mr. Reed will make ene mere visit
te Guiteau before Friday. He says that
he tlees net care te go oftener, as the visits
are very painful te him.
The attorneyfgencral stated this after
noon that his order regarding the admis
sion of visitors te see the assassin, Guiteau,
was net intended te cxclude his relatives
or his counsel, Mr. Reed, and that if the
district attorney is disposed te allow them
the priviloge he will elfer no objections.
