THK KICKERS KICKED OL'T.
A Committee Appointed te Ceurer ultli their
CeufctltueutH.
Aii adjourned meeting of the Hejnibli
can county committee was held in Giant
hall thin morning, te consider what was te
be done with the members who wcie net
present at the last meeting, or, being
present, had relused te sigu an address
pledgin themselves te a hearty support
of the Ilarrisburg ticket.
After the minutes had been read a com
munication was read from Mr. Bush, of
Salisbury, in which he gives a hearty sup sup
pe: t te the Ilarrishurg ticket and the ad
dirhs adopted at the last meeting of the
committee.
Michael Wciiner of Eden sent weid that
he could net bcprcsenr, uut has net a weid
le hay against the address or the Harris
burg ticket.
A communication from A.L. Hersliey,
of Silver Springs, was read, lie declines
te subscribe te the address ; Fays thcie is
a decided opposition te it and te the llar
jislnirg ticket among his constituents and
the hi each would be widened by the adop
tion of harsh measures ; he wants te sen a
reconciliation brought about ; would be
liberal with thei-c who oppose the ticket,
which is net yet full ; he is still a Uepub
lican, and if relieved fiem duty en the
committee will continue te de all he can
ler the success of Republican principles i.i
the ensuing campaign and also in the
fittuie.
Rebert S. MeClure, of Uait, said he
steed just whete he steed at the last nitct
inir of the committee. He had never in
timated that he would vote the Indepen
dent ticket, but he would net sign the ad
dress. Scott Brady asked Mr. McCiuie who
elected him the Democrats, the Indepen
dents or the Republicans, and lie answered
"the Republicans." "Then why ain't
you a Republican V" asked Brady. "I
am," said MeCluic. "Ne ; you are only
a soiehead," said Brady.
Mr. Duulap, of Manheim, one of the ab
sentees at last meeting, said he favored the
address and would vote the whole ticket.
CJ. S. Nissly, of Springville, who appear
ed as a substitute for David P. Myers, a
non-signer, stated that he could net sign
the address ; he was only substituted thi."
morning and did net knew what Mr. My
ers views might he en the subject.
Then followed some bitter talk again-'
the kicki-is by Al. C. Wclchans, B. P. W.
Urban, Thes. B. Cochran and ethers,
Wclchans deelaiing that theie should be
no black sheep in the committee, and
moved the appointment of a committee of
live te clean them out and have Rcpubli
licaus put in their places.
Welchans was declared out of order, at
picscnt, as all the nen-siguers had net
jet been hcatd from.
Mr. A. E. Nauman, of Spei ting Hill,
:ue.-,e, and though he btammeied a geed
ileal, he said he disapproved the address
and would net sign it. lie. was punished
with hisses.
Mr. Uibau pictcntcd a substitute for
Mr. Wclchans' lcsolutien, which was, in
clleet, that the scats of the kickers be de
c'aied vacant and a committee of live ap
pointed te confer with lcpicscutativc Re
publicans of their icsncctive districts te
select suitable men te till the vacancies. ,
The substitute was adopted, after Urban j
had made a speech in which he said that
the honesty of the highwayman liseste'
dignity when cempatcd with the infamy
of the kickers ; and that if ever the Re-I
publican paity dies, a leceitling angel will '
wiite upon its tomb : " Stabbed in the :
back by professed friends." '
