A communication from the Weman's
Xatiemd Christian Tcmpei .nice Union was
then read by Dr. N. S. I)& :s, of Chicago,
in which they advocated introducing the
study of physiology, anatomy, hygiene,
and "especially the results of the use of in
toxicating liquors upon the human body
as a part of hygiene, in schools supported
by public money. This was referred te
the sect ion en state medicine.
Tiie morning session then adjourned and
the delegates of the different states met
separately te elect their member in the
nominating committee. The Pennsylva
nia delegation chose Dr. Piickc, of Phila
delphia, as their representative, and in
structed him te give bis vote for the nom
ination of Dr. Atlee, of Lancaster, for the
presidency.
In tbe afternoon the diti'erent sections
met at balls assigned for tbe purpose of
reading and discussing papers. Dr. Carl
Seller read a paper en the use of electri
city in surgery and showed a novel in
strument for the removal of bony tumors.
He was also elected sccrctaay el tbe sec
tion of larycgolegy. Dr. J. G. Lee, of
Philadelphia, read a paper en suicide and
Dr. Shoemaker a paper en chlorate of pot
ash, &c.
