The Istellieesceu has frequently re
ferred te the general and often repeated
complaints of persons doing business in
the county offices, that they are charged
illegal and exorbitant fees. In order that
the entire public may knew their rights
and hew te maintain them, we print the
fee bill for this county, as enacted in the
law of 1878. Any persons doing business
in the county offices can consult the fol
lowing and cempai or the fees with these
charged them. If they are overcharged
they have an easy remedy. All the county
officers whose fees are regulated by this
schedule arc required te make a table of
thejr lawful fees and keep it up in a con
spicuous place in the office for the inspec
tion of all persons having business with
them. It is" their duty, tee, and that of
their deputies, whenever demand for it is
made, immediately after receiving any
fees or security for payment of them, " te
deliver a bill of pailiculars, specifying
the several items contained therein and
the amount thereof, and te give the party
paying tucli fees a receipt in full thcieef,
or te indorse en such written security when
taking that the same was given for fees',
and te sign the indersement be made."
"Ithall and may be lawful for any per
son te refuse p.tyment of fees te any offi
cer who will net ruake out a bill of partic
ulars as prescribed by this act, signed by
him, if required, and also a leceipt or dis
charge, signed by him, of the fees paid."
':If any officer whatsoever shall fail or
neglect te comply with any of the provi previ
sions of this act, or shall take greater or
ether fees than is herein before expressed
and limited for any service te be dene by
him, or if any officer shall charge or de
