The public schools of Bart arc finishing

On Saturday. 23th iusL, Mr. M. T. Pal

News Frem the Luwer Eiii.
Last week Mr. Thes. McSpanau moved
from our township te his new home, near
Gatchelville, Yerk county. Mr. McSpar-
rau has been a resident of this neigubor neiguber neigubor
heod all his life, which has been lived iu
that manner, that, new that he leaves us,
he takes with him all our geed wishes for
his and his family's welfare and prosperity.
He is a strong Intelligences man, and
wc congratulate him upon getting into a
county where he can help elect mere
county officers than a commissioner and
auditor.
Rachel Shoemaker, who has been living
with her nephew, Isaac Shoemaker, near
Hess s rail), died last week.
In Fulton township, en the 23 inst, there
was a death that caused the profoundest
sorrow wherever the deceased, or the re
cent circumstances of her life, were known.
It was that of Mrs. Allie Ambler, wife of
Ansen B. Ambler, of this township ; and
daughter of Mr. Samuel Dersey et the
former township. Mrs. Ambler was in
her twenty-fifth year, and was married in
December last, she had been in very deli
cate health previous te her marriage, but
at that time it was thought she was
recovering, &ue grew worse, however,
a short time age, and died, last
week in the very opening of a beauti
ful womanhood. She and her husband
had just completed their preparations te
begin husekeeping and farming en the
first of April, up te which time she was
te remain at her father's home, where she
died. Everything was se full of premise
before her, bright prospects and kind
friends en every side, her young husband
a most congenial companion, their lives
have been rich in anticipation. " But eh !
fell death's untimely frost." The young
wife's was one of these happy natures that
makes every acquaintance a friend, and
her death has touched mere chords than
these of kindred. Sympathy for the be
reaved family is universal, and for the
young husband's great sorrow, come se
early, there is enough pity te seethe it, if
pity ever could.

Intelligence from Gap and Vicinity.
Christian Fex sold last week, te the
Pennsylvania railroad company, a house
and let in the Gap for $2,200.
The large Garfield and Arthur pole, at
the Gap postefBce, was broken off at the
splice by the high winds en Monday morn
ing. The public schools of this town&hip
elese en Friday. The long-looked-for-man,
Supt. B. F. Shaub, failed te visit our
schools this year.

On the 24th inst., Susan, wife of Pusey
Bernard, esq., of Christiana, died after a
brief ailment, caused by a stroke of palsy,
at her residence. Her remains were in
terrrd tm Monday in Old Sadsbury grave
yard.
During the last' week there has been a
little stir in the tobacco market. Fatman
bought the following lets : Christian Eby,
4 acres at 25, 13, 5, 3 ; Jehn Haines, crop
at 21, G and 3; Christ. Fisher, crop at 1C,
6 and 3 : Pretsfield & Ce., bought of an
acre from Lewis Lradecamp, at 20, 8 and
4, and B. S. Weiler bought Andrew
Weiler's crop at 10 cents round.
Blank petitions, asking for Sargeant
Masen's pardon, have been sent te' dif
ferent places in this township, and they
are rapidly being rilled with signatures.
There was also a subscription raised for
"Betty and the Baby."
We had the pleasure of seeing the "Ger
man Volunteer" played before s very
large and appreciative audiepce in Centre
hall, in Marietta, en Saturday night ; and
taking into Consideration the fact that Mr.
Saphar was supported altogether by
Marietta home talent and having but a
short time te drill tbe participants, we
think it was one of the best entertain
ments we ever saw given bv home talent.
The actors all knew their parts and per
formed them well. Mr. Saphar is a whole
team himself, and evoked frequent out
bursts of applause by his quaint off-hand
remarks iu reference te the financial suc
cess of their trip te Columbia tbe night
before. The tableaux were exquisite, the
finest that can be produced, and as the
proceeds are te be used for the benefit of
the G. A. R., it was a decided success
let us hear from them again.

The March Meeting of the Linncean Society.
At the meeting of the Linnteau en Sat

the chair, donations were made as fellows :
Museum: Mic. ex. iron from Rochester,
N. V., by W. L. Hcrshey ; asbestos from
Wilmington, Delaware, and mica slate and
quartz impregnated with malachite from
localities unknown, by students of the
high school, who arc manifesting an active
working interest in natural science, nota
bly in botany and mineralogy, and they
descrve encouragement. A specimen of
1'nten JeJJ'ersenii, by the curators, kept
alive in a glebe aquarium for a period of
nine months, and died en the 2d of
March, 1882. As the animal belongs te
the order Batrachia, the theory of its
death is based upon the natural change in
its organization, rather than upon its.phy
sical surroundings. During the whole
nine months it had been provided with a
pair of external ciliated gills, and was a
water breathing animal like the fishes.
But the period of its transformation had
arrived, when it cast off its gills and be
came air breathing, and -as the form of
the aquarium prevented it from reaching
the surface te inhale the air, and the
oxygen iu the water in the tank being ex
hausted, the result was natural. Iu an
aquarium these animals may survive, at
least, nine months, whatever the case
may be in their normal conditieu.

The Bleed Is the foundation of life, It' circu
lates through every fart et the oedy, and un
less it Is pure and rich, geed health Is impessi
ble. If disease has enteved the system the only
sure and quick way te drive it out Is te purify
and enrich' the bleed.
These simple tacts arc well known, and the
highest medical authorities agree that nothing
but iron will restore the bleed te Its natural
condition ; and also that all the iron prepara
tions hitherto made blacken the teeth, cause
headache, and are otherwise injurious.
Brown's Iren Bitters
Will thoroughly and quickly assimilate with
the bleed, purifying and strengthening it.and
thus drive disease from any part et the system
and It will wet blacken the teeth, cause head
