PURCHASE OF THE SUN STEAMER.
A IHtcli" In the Negotiations with the
American Chairman Zecher and
the fehlfller Commute.
Y'j At a meeting of the trustees of the Sun'
me company aim uie special tire committee
of councils, held last evening the San
steam lire engine was transferred te the
city, the company agreeing te accept in
payment an approved bill, payable eighteen
months after the date el the contract, and
te allow the eity te take the engine away
at such time and locate it at such place
as may be deemed exjicdieut. It Is un
derstood that the steamer will be placed
inconvenient quaiters i" the southern
section of the city.
The American.
The fue committee of councils and a
committee of the American fire company
met in the office of Ii. F. Efahlemau, esq,,
this morning, for the purpose of complet
ing the contract authorized te be entered
into between the city and the company
respectively, for the transfer of the Ameri
can steamer te the new lire depart
ment ; but there appears te be a." hitch ' '
in the negotiations. The councils' com.
mitttce was ready te complete a contract
for a lease of the steamer for eighteen
mouths at the rate of $350 per annum, and
te buy the property at the end of that
time for $2,500, if the call system should
prove a success ; and if net, te return
the steamer te the company in as geed
condition as it is new. The representa
tives of the company, hawevcr, wanted
the city te buy at euce for 2,500 and te
give a mayor's warrant or ether negotiable
paper payable in cighecu months ; or in
stead of this arrangement, te lease the
steamer for eighteen months at $350 per
annum, with the condition annexed that
it should be purchased and paid for at
the end of the lease.

mittee, informed Mr. Geedman, that the
committee refused te held any further
communication with the Shiflier company,
whose gross insults te the eommittee at
the meeting en Thursday evening, had
convinced the committee that any further
communication with the company would
be unworthy of notice. Fer the president
and seme ether members of the Shiflier,
who proved themselves te be gentlemen en
the occasion referred te, the committee
have the kindest feeling. but decline te
