A Shoemaker Who Attributes a Paralytic Cure te Divine Power. Philadelphia Recerd. That the day of miracles is net past is lirmly believed by is. t. Uelavan, or Je. 542 Silliman street, West Philadelphia. Once lie was helpless, he badly afflicted jvitb. paralysis that his death was expected at any time, but new he is able te walk te church aud tell the congregation of the wonderful euro that carae upon him in a moment and directly, se he declares, by the hand of Ged. Delavan is a shoemaker by trade, and eight years age was smitten with paralysis. The right side was first affected, and for six years the lower limbs were partially helpless. He wes able te walk with the help of crutches, and being au Odd Fellow and a member of the Order of Ameiican Mechanics, drew relief from these societies. About a year and a half age the ail'cctien of the lower limbs bo be bo canie complete, without sensation, and from that time he was unable te move his body without assistance At different times his case was pronounced hopeless. Last evening Mr. Delavan atteuded ser vice at tbe Christian mission, Forty-first aud Market streets, and. related the cir cumstances of his cure. In his own words : "On the' night of Fcbuary 8 last, Ihc pain in my side was unusually acute, and it was midnight before the powerful doses of opiates that had been admin istered could put me te Bleep. I was aroused out of a sound slumber by a voice that said distinctly : ' Why net trust Ged ?' I was startled. The voice had a strange, supernatural tone, aud at first I thought I had been dreaming. I raised up in in my bed, the fust time I had beeu able te bend my back without help in eighteen months. Again the same-veice speke: 'Can you trust Ged ? ' I looked around in amaze ment. There was net a person in the room save my wife, and she was sleeping soundly en an adjoining cot. The voice did net come front a human threat, for there was no ene m the house te speak. Besides, it had a heavenly ring and was as sweet as an angel's tone. A third time I heard it,and by this time I was wide awake and in full -possession of my senses. I could feel the Divine presence- and distinctly the words fell upon my ears : ' Will you trust Ged and He will heal you ?' I could resist the influence- no longer, aud with the spirit moving me I said : ' Yes, Lord ! I will trust Thee.' As the words fell from my lips a wild sensation ran down my back. It fell like a shock of electricity, only se much gentler and sweeter. It felt like new life, and my spinal column was in vigerated. When l lay down there was fccliui; in my lower limbs I could twist my ankle aud draw up my knee, aud iu the morning was able te kneel beside my bed and give thanks for my recovery. Strength seen returned, aud in a few days l was able te walk." Delavau is fervent iu his belief that his cure was a miracle, and expresses himself as willing te speak at religious meetings in testimony el his relief. He says he is (let auxieus for notoriety, and is impelled by different reasons for speaking en the subject. He has been a member of the Methodist church for twenty-six years, and ler twelve years was a communicant of Central M. K. church, though during his sickness he says his faith was severely shaken A 1'rctty Story. A pietty story i3 told of Moses Men delssohn, the founder of the family whose name has a sound of music iu it. He was a humpback, and a young Hamburg maiden rejected him because he was mis shapen. He went te bid her geed-by and while he was making a last supreme effort of persuasion she did net life her eyes from her sewing. " De you really think mar riages are made in heaven?'' -she asked. " Yes, indeed," he replied, "and something specially wonderful happened te me. At the birth of a child proclamation is made in heaven that he or she shall marry such and such an eue. When I was born my future wife was also named, but at the same time it was said, 'Alas! she will have a dreadful humpback.' 'Oh, Ged,' 7 said then, ' a deformed girl will become embittered and unhappy, whereas she should be beautiful. Dear Lord, give me the humpback and let the maid be well faveied and agreeable.' " The girl could net resist such wooing as that, and threw her arms around his neck. Lady CeanUuen.
