A J-ITTSBCKGH SCANDAL.
Singular Elopement of a Docter's Wife.
Pittsburgh society is still scandalized
with the fact that Dr. Geerge's wife
eloped with his hired man, Charles C.
Lee, and the matter is a most peculiar one.
Dr. Geerge is a -well-known physician el
Pcnn avenue, and has a large practice
Up te the time of this affair there has
been flfb domestic difficulty. Mrs. Geerge
was aged 33, nineteen years younger than
the doctor, but thcie were no indications
until lately that she did net love him
She was very attentive te his wants and
cared for him as a wife should, until dis
cord and misery and min wcic introduced
into the household by her infatuation and
iiual elope incut with Lee, who seems
te have been a drunken, worthless
fellow. Mrs. G 's sister, who had been
visiting in the family, seems te have sus
pected the intimacy for some time and
vainly tried te persuade her sister te break
it off. This young woman's name is Miss
Ceriuuu Libhait, of Yerk, and in
her story te the Leader she plainly
manifests a keen

Libhart, the sister of the erring wife, feels
keenly thedisgiace that has been brought
en her famiiy, which she claims is one of
tue eldest and most highly respected in
Lancaster county. Her uncle was a judge
there for thirty-live years, and her father
was elected sheriff of the county but died
en the day of his election. She wrote te
her brother at Yerk telling him of Mrs.
Geerge's disappearance, but net giving
the reason, and our reporter saw the letter
b.9 wiete in return, stating that if she
would appear in Yerk he would notify
tbem of tlie fact." In her flight Mib.
Geerge took S2G8 in cash and $.100 or $C00
worth of clothes and jewelry.

Jacob Sheafi'er, a tobacco packer, who
works for Lederman, bearded a. freight
train at the Pennsylvania railroad depot
and rode Irem that point te the Lemen

fell heavily te the track and had an ugly
gash several inches in length cut across
the inside of his left leg at the knee.
He was also badly braised about the
body, and had his clothing cut through te
the skin from the neck te the waist. He
was uarticd te the Black nerse hotel
where he beatded, and Dr. Davis dressed
his wounds, the cut in the leg requiring
several stitches te close the wound. Shaef

An evening party was held at the resi

The pi ices of butter and eggs have
fallen, the former selling en market this

Filty cars of stock, with the new air
brakes en, arrived in the west yard this

Freight traffic ever the P. R. R. is en
the increase and both yards at this place
present a lively appearance.
A Narrow Escape.
Mr. James Allisen came near losing ene
of his little children last evening. The
mother was attending te seme household
duties and left the little boy and girl in
the kitchen playing. When she left the
room they were both near the stove en the
fleer, and as seen as her back Was turned
the boy jumped up and began playing with
the fire. In doing co he broke the grate
and a number of red. het coals fell into the
lap of the little girl, setting fire te her
clothes and burning the entire dress from
her body, but strange te relate, net in
juring her body at all. Her mother hap
pened te glance into the room and was
horrified te sec her baby girl in flames.
With great preseuce of mind she picked
up a piece of carpet and extinguished the
flames by wrapping the child up iu them.
A "Fitful season.
Despite the disagreeable weather of yes
terday ue less than five fights occurred.
One of the participauts, an old fighter,
who geneially gets whipped ence or twice
a week, insulted a gentleman en Fourth
street, who promptly knocked him down.
This satisfied the fallen man for seme
time, but again plucking up ceuiage he
entered a saloon en Frent street, raised
another row and was again worsted. Twe
daikcys fought en the river shere near the
coal shutcs, and there is no telling hew it
would have ended had they net been park
ed. An employee at the Shawnee rolling
mill was attacked by a tramp last evening
who tried te rob him, but after get
ting badly pounded Mr. Tramp took
te his heels. A husband and wife
had a lively time last evening about G:30
o'clock. It appears that for some time
past the wife has accused the husband for
going with women, whose characters de
net bear inspection. He did net exactly
deny it, as he had been caught several
times iu their company. Last night the
wife heard he was with one such, and,
arming herself with two umbrellas
and a club, she went in search
of her wayward hubby. She found
him aud immediately began a war,
breaking the umbrellas ever his head and
shoulders, and afterwards began en him
with the club. This was tee much- and he
ran, wife and a large crowd follewinghim.
Hew it ended we cannot say, but she did
uet catch him last night again.

The Eastern Virginian speaks of the

R. White, principal assistaut engineer ;
Charles E. Waun, assistant, and live axe

is pushing the work as fast as the weather
will permit, efteu, indeed, under

that these having the buildiug of the read
in hand desire te commenco construction
at the earliest possible moment. Te facili
tate this object property owners se far have
promptly granted the right of way where
cver asked, aud we feel confident that all
who have net yet been called upon will
as readily and promptly lcspend. As
seen as the right of way is obtained and
the line run the work of construction will
commence. This Is expected te be accom

of May when construction will be pushed
forward in the most vigorous manner."
The read is te be a perfect air line from
New Church te Eastville, with all the
latest improvements, steel rails, etc. The
read will pass through seme of the most
beautiful sections of Virginia.
