Uosien Dispatch te X. Y. Sun
A clever use of flatten- this evening

lie was, however, greeted by au immense
audience. Seme three or four thousand
people weie packed iute Music hall. It
was given out in advance that the Har

brated iesthcte a reusing leceptieu, aud it
is eafe te say that tuicc-femths of the
crowd came te sec the fun. It was a te
spectable audience, iu which thcie were
no prominent net sous.
The vicinitv'ef the hall rang with the
Haivaid "Kah! Rah 'Kali!'' before

eutcicd a piocessieu of eixty jeung 15un 15un

aggerated imitation of Oecai'.s well-known
costume, including dics ccats. knee
breeches, aud flaring neckties of striking
coleis. Several were immense wigs, and all
had lilicb iu their buttonholes aud canied
big sunflowers. They cnteicd as Run Run
therne comes upon the stage in ''Patience,''
and took scats in the two ft out iev.s. The
lectin er made his appeal anee sheitly
aftctward. and tcccived eiy much the
same leceptieu that ha 1 been given his
imitateis. On his coining iu sight, the
great ciewd bieke into loud applause,
which was changed te immoderate laugh
ter by the time the lectuier had 1 cached
the desk. He had discarded the knee
biccches, but ethci wise his laimcut was
the same as that iu which he has appeared
in ether places. Oscar was but slightly
discomposed by the doubtful gieeting, and
ejuickly silenced his giiuniug listeueis by
exptcssing the honor he felt in appealing
in Dostou, which is, he said, the only city
iu Ameiica that has given :i school of
thought and philosophy te Utuepe. lie
was evidently picpaicd for the college
boys, for he added that he was also bon ben
ded at s-eeing about him such evidence,
of ail. He had no doubt that these wcie
young men sinecic in their admiration of
art, but for the iiist time in his life he
breathed a silent prayer te be elclivcicd
fiem his disciples. He felt like quoting
from Woulsweith
" T urn tieni thee IjeM, bail men."
The audience applauded heaitily. Thu
young men en the front .scat., wcie
squelched into behavior that averaged as
geed as these aieund them, but their (u! (u!
lew students supplied the deficiency in the
way of demonstration.
Oscar procccded with his tegular leet
uic. The crowd listened te the dull eilem eilem
inate monotone very patiently fei ncaiiy
fifteen minutes, when many began te leave
and the sunflower fans iu the audience
bejrau te flutter ominously. I'icsently
the lectin cr paused te think .1 glass et
water. After a moment a tattle et clap
ping and stamping began, which continued
for some time after the pcisecuted speaker
was icady te iccemiucucc. Theio voie
quite a number of ttue v.eishipeis in the
audience, and they seen manifested their
elisapprevat by vigoieus hissing. The
pcifeimancc was several times iepeate.1.
Wilde beie it bravely for at least halt au
hour, even pcimitting his toimenieis te
again intenupt him after attempting te
begin, lie was lieai.se and in lather bad
voice, having te lcheit. fiequcntly t tlie
s'lass of water bv his side. This was each
". ...
time made the signal for saicastic ap
plause, and hissing in condemnation of it,
until the lecture was finished.
The sixty Runthei nes filed out a they
entered, bcfoie the audienca rose te
leave the hall. They wcie the only etic ;
whose enjoyment of the evening's eute:
taiumcut had net been ascemplete as ihey
anticipated. Wilde lemaikcd, with evi
elent satisfaction, that "the young men
lather lapsed into acquiescence," but his

Seme men, in spite uf iheinsjlvc.:, will
be f.iveicd by I'm tune. Fer moie than
thiity vc.u.s tl.e inhabitants of the Valley
of riench Cieek, iu Chctei county, have
been pra ing that somebody would come
along and build them a raiiiead up that
sticam aud let them i cap t no benefit by
.m inciease in the value of their prepeity.
AVhcaevcr the matter was talked of they
v.vieall attention and wcie wishing it all
:;eiU. ofge.id luck, but whenever anyene
asked them te give it substantial aid, by
taking stock, they stuck their iingcis in
their caw and did net hear a weid of it.
They wetiM net fellow Jupitci's advice te
the Cicei . 1 maikct man, whose cut stuck
iu the mud. te " put his own .shoulder te
the wheel, because Ced helped only these
who helped themselves," and thus far the
read has net been build.
However, thfie is new goedauthotity
f rb.i'ing that the line (l)clavvaie Uiver
A; Lancaster laihead) will be built, in
the very near ltituic ; and bcfeic the weeds
will have put en their livery of green, tLe
engineer., will be locating the read, either
with or without the aid of tha mono jed
men of the valley.
It will Cvteml fiei.i Phicuixville te Lan
caster, by way of Mnrgantewn, Church-
town, New Helland, Kcaiviile, ami itiiicn.
It may inn by way of the Falls, or it may
take up the Seuth branch by way or War
wick, whichever loute may appear most
feasible, but it will net connect with the
Picket itig Valley lu.id, but i tin into Pheo Phee
uiwille by another unite-.
The p.uty having the matter iu charge
aie abundantly able te tle what they pre
pose, and that the read will be built ccnis
almost bejend a doubt. One thing, how
ever, is we: thy of note, and that i, that
as the line is te be constructed entirely
with outside capital, the people along the
hue will net be consulted te any gicat ex
tent about ils location, u r wheic stations
shall r shall net be put. The company
will consider makilv their own intcicsts
and convenience.
As we said bcfeie, the f.ive.s et lottune
will be feiced en some, but these who
will be passed by will bear in mind that
they scfusid te helpthcmselvvs when they
could help themselves. We may give
fut titer paiticulais he fei e long.
