throng was present at the opening or the
ninth week of Guiteatt's trial, the ladies
being still ileciiledly in the uinjerity. Gtti
teau looked nervous and anxious. In his
customary opening harangue he auneunced
that he had received ever eight hundred
letteis, the greater part of them from
ladies. Public opinion he said is changing
fast, and Saturday he had received :i
thousand dollars from the Stalwarts of
Brooklyn and five bundled from the Stal
warts of Xew Yerk. A bailiff here tried
te step him, but the prisoner turned upon
him in a most vicious manner and snarled
out a rebuff. 31 r. Seevillc then resumed
his argument.
3Ir. Seevillc was listened te with marked
attention for an hour and a half. lie and
Perter, during a heated discussion, were
warned by the judge net te indulge in per
sonalities. A recess was they taken.

A wedding of a very lemantic charac
ter, occurred in this city yesterday jnorn jnern
iug. It was the denouement of a ceiirtshi)
of thirty-four years age a happy consum
mation of youthful love showing hew in
curable arc the weuntlri invisible that,
love's keen arrow made. 1 r . Jehn Smith,
new en a visit te Denver, is a wealthy and
influential citizen of New Mexico. When
quite a yeuug man he loved a young lady
in au Eastern state aud iu return received
the most undying assurances of her affec
tion towards him. But fate intervened.
Circumstances of a peculiar nature pre
vented their union, and after the. first
pangs of disappointed love weie past
both were married and went their sepa
rate ways with their companions. A few
years later they lest sight of each ether,
but never forget their youthful attach
ment. Tlie lady married a gentleman
named Kilpatrick with whom she moved
te Missouri. A few years age her husbaud
died, and near the same time Pi. Smith
became a widower. 1 we weeks age Lr.
Smith resolved te take atrip East in .search
of his boyhood sweetheart, whose place
of residence was unknown te him. His
first stepping place was at Denver. Arriv
ing in the early part of last week, he
took a room at the St. James hotel, and
commenced looking after some business
among the merchants. Twe days after
his arrival, while looking ever thu hotel
register, Dr. Smith, te his great surprise,
read the name of Mrs. Kilpatrick, front
Missouri. He sought an interview at
once, and for the first time in thirty-four
years beheld his old-time sweetheart.
The rest of the story is of necessity brief
and already anticipated.
