Washington, Dee. 1G. Tlie court
room was densely crowded as usual this
morning. Cel. Cerkliill was uet present
at the opening of court, which led Guiteau
te siiy he heard Gen. Reynolds was sick
this morning and he wondered if Cerkliill
was sick, tee. He guessed they both get
mere man tncy wauled yesterday.
The lecerd of the court iuthe divorce

sented, and notwithstanding objection
from Mr. Sceville, was admitted by
court.
Gen. I'eyuelds was again placed en the
staud and Guiteau became petulant at
euee. beevillc cress-examiued witness,
with Guiteau ficijuently interjecting in
sulting remarks. t
Genera! Reynolds read from notes he
had taken ou the occasion of his first in
terview with Guiteau. Quoting the pris
oner's words, he read. " If theze is a
Stalwart in the land I am he ; Giant,
Cenklith.', Legau and Governer Cernell aie
the bigguns among the Stalwarts, "ami I
rank with them." "
Guiteau retorted : " I never said I could
rank with them..i But, as a matter of fact,

A number of newspaper -.lips which the
wittiess had read te the piisener at this
interview, te show what weie the senti

read by the disttict attorney.
The piisener became very angry when a
letter of Gen. Grant's was lead in which
the latter says : "My son tells use Guiteau
is a dead beat.'" The prisoner then shouted
"This is what Fird Grant says. He's a
nice pill, is'ut he! Hanging leuml hi,
father ! I should say he's a bigger dead
beat than I am."
Anether passage was it-ad, which spoke
of Guiteau's ciinie as a "most audacious
act." Guiteau interrupted : " And se it

such a desperate state of mind I could uet

Ellen A. Graut was called and Guiteau
at once shouted. "Mrs. Grant was the
