The Hist kiiew of the- season fell here en Sunday evening, covering the ground about an inch i:i depth. At the same period last, year the :co houses were full of ice and we had .splendid sleighing. Dr. Spitzka again took the stand. lie thought that the appearance of Guiteau's eyes was one of the strongest indications of insanity. Witness pointed out upon a diagram of his own drawing the irregularities in the head referred te. lie declined te answer a questieu whether he believed in Ged. Witness in the Geslin case had been asked the same kind of questions rclative te what he termed " the horse doctor business" as he had been asked yester day. Geslin eventually died in a lunatic asylum from the same type of insanity as Guitcau displays. Guiteau meanwhile had found time te have a fling or two at Corkhill, and nin at DeWitt Talmage. Wituess opined that the expert who will in this court testify that the prisoner is sane is no expert at all, or a dishonest one. Dr. Fordyce Barker, of New Yerk, sworn : Had been in practice 35 years and president of seme medical college during the past 30 years. His testimony, which was very long, was against the prisoner and indicates that under conditions already testified te wituess believed Guiteau in sane. Finally the prisoner said, " Docter, I want te askfyeu where a man is impelled te commit a crime by an immilse he can net resist, is he sane or insane ."' Answer "Where that fact can be proved sir, it i:? insanity." Guiteau "That's just my case, sir," with an air of perfect satisfaction. Then turning te Scevillo he said, "Conic that's the whole case ; let's have a recess I'm getting hungry." Mrs. Scevillo desired te ask a question. Guiteau (impatiently) "Oh you keep still ; It's all they can de te put up with me." Judge Cox, however, assented. Mrs. Scevillo asked, " Can a man be born insane?" Answer "Ne, madam, he could be born an idiot or an imbecile, but insanity is an acquired state after birth." Recess for half an hour. C'ONUUEsS. I'l'in eeitini; of the Senate. Washington, Dec. 13.
