LATEST NEWS BY MAIL.
The bishop of Algoma died yesterday in
Terente.
A block of frame stores at Short Creek,
Kansas, was burned en Monday night.
The less is estimated at 950,009.
By a collision between two freight trains
near Marshall, Texas, en Tuesday, two
men were killed and seven injured three
seriously.
It is reported from Edmonton, in the
Northwest territory, that geld operations
there are brisk, "a cepddeal of the dost
panning out from $3 te $12 per day."
The body of a fourth boy killed by the
accident at the ruins of the Sunday school
building in St. Jehn, New Brunswick, was
fennd in the debris yesterday morning.
The postefBco at New Brunswick, New
Jersey, was robbed, .en Tuesday night, of
$1,500 in money and stamps. Voorhees
station, en the Pennsylvania railroad, was
also robbed by tramps who escaped.
A span of the bridge across the Red
Cedar river at Cedar Falls, Wisconsin,
was blown out by a storm en Tuesday
night, killing one roan and seriously in
juring three ethers.
The authorities of Chicago, in order te
check the spread of the small-pox in that
city, have ordered a systematic inspection
of the West Side and compulsory vaccina
tion for all citizens.
The government of Ontario, en Tuesday,
sold timber limits in the Muskeha and
Parry Sound districts of that province.
The aggregate of territory was 127 square
miles, and the amount received was $717,
176. The auuual convention of the Railroad
Conductors' Life Insurance association met
yesterday, in New Orleans. Delegates
were present from all sections of the United
States and Canada. Mayer Shakspeare
delivered an address of welcome
William Burk, alias Charles H. Page,
has been arrested in Buffalo as the man
who stele the $117,000 in bends from the
president of the Commercial national bank
of Cleveland, Ohie. He had two confed
erates who are supposed te have the stolen
bends in their possession.
The schooners H. B. Baldwin and Cos
sack went ashere at Cleveland, Ohie,
yesterday rooming in a furious gale.
Threir crews were rescued. Beth vessels
will probably prove almost total wrecks.
The Baldwin is valued at $12,000 and the
Cossack at $ 16,000.
The Ohie Str-te Dental society met yes
terday in Columbus. Dr. J. II. Warner,
of Cincinnati, offered a resolution of sym
pathy with Dr. Chalfant, of California,
new in jail for killing an agent of the
Goodyear rubber company. The society
refused te consider the resolution and cen
sured its introducer.
The I eiler of the Mission soap and
candle weiks, in Chicago, blew up yes
terday morning, demolishing the build
ing and causing a less of $20,000. One
piece of the boiler was thrown ever a two
story buildiug and landed in a gravel pit
1000 yards distant. Strangely enough, no
lives were lest.
The steamer Lake Winnepeg, which ar
rived at New Yerk yesterday from Liver
peel repeits that en the 23d ult., during a
hurncme, James lilair, chief engineer,
was washed evci beard and lest ; Patrick
Coency, fireman, was thrown down the
stoke hele and killed, and Jehn Reynolds,
fireman, died from drinking carbolic acid
in mistake for vinegar.-
