iHK HISTORY
THE TOBACCO MARKET.
SEED LEAF AND HAVANA.
Fer Hie Week EdiIIdc Saturday, Decern
U. S. Tobacco Journal.
A Blight improvement in the trade was
neticeable last Tyeek, the presence of a
few of the larger city manufacturers in
the market ami a few, though limited,
sales te them was taken as a significance
that the bteck with the larjr manufac
turers in general is en the decline, and that
i-een they would have te invest in leaf te
.such an extent as will speedily clear the
market of the '80 stocks. Certain it is
that this lethargic state of our market
will net last long. Frem the statement
of the tax collection in the Third district
of New Yerk, in which the largest facto
ries arc situated, as given in another coj cej
umn.it will be seen that last month, which
was expected te he the forerunner of a
very quiet period, was in point of activity
equal te itji predecessor. There are no in
dications of any abatement, and though
the coming purchases in the market may
net be as extensive in special cases, the
aggregate will no doubt be very great and
likclyte make old tobacco a scarcity be
fore the new is fit te work. As te the new
crop, everybody seems te have made up
his mind that Connecticut, New Yerk
state and Western crops will be of a very
acceptable nature, while Pennsylvania is
still clouded in mystery and dark
ness. Theso who have net as yet invested,
but would like te notwithstanding this
mystery and darkness, provided the farm
ers agree te ceme down in prices, pro
nounce the crop an unredeemable failure ;
f)ni-a fiR-n wlm havn alreadv beunlit
some of this crop triflingly, and greatly of
ntier nrnna nm pn nfillv loud in their con
demnatien of this crop. One of the firms
in this city belonging te the latter class
has even gene se far as te employ a broker
te offer their purchases of '81 Pennsylva
nia at a less. All this, of course, is sham
and an antiquated business trick. A great
portion of the '81 Pennsylvania crop is
line, in fact finer than any of the previous
crop. Anether portion is peer. The fine
has been bought up and the peer cannot
Le bought as yet at low prices. If it
could the dcramers of the crop would be
the first te take held of it.
The sales of the week were as fellows :
Pennsylvania Crep '80 : 500 cases ;
fine muuing, 27 cents (few fillers) ; me
dium, 13 te 18 cents ; low, 12 cents.
Connecticut Crep '80 : 220 cases ;
mostly wrapper, 22 te 40 cents.
Ohie Crep '80 : 230 cases ; fillcry lets,
5 te C cents ; medium running, 10 cents.
Havana Moderately active ; sales COO
bales ; of these 300 were of the '81 crop ;
there arc about 3,000 bales of this stock
already in the market ; llcmedies are the
favorites and sell at 83 te 92 cents.

TRANCE-VET TRUE I
STRANGE. YET TRUE, that alter the hun
dreds of extraordinary cures wrought by DR.
GREENE in this city and county, of Con
sumption, Diabetes, Palsy, Fits, Dyspepsia and
ether diseases, after the patients hail ( without
success ) tested Alie, and Homeeopathic physi
cians. 'Tis very strange that hundreds of
ether persons, mere or less ulUictcd with dis
ease, will net read Dr. Greene's pamphlets, or
call upon him and be cured of their ailments.
Strange tliat they could be influenced by jeal
ous physicians, or druggists, te keep away
ireni htm. They ought te knew that the
major portion of his patients are from the
ranks et ether M. D.s, and that it they did net
lie, or threw out some kind et inuendees, they
would lese the balance of their patrons. Mrs.
McCaskcy, et Philadelphia, came under Dr.
G.'s charge through Mr. Powell, of Ne. (J East
Walnut street, almost blind ; been for years
testing the Philadelphia oculists. Oct. 27, went
florae with geed vision and health. Oct. 27,
Wm. Ensminger, a blacksmith of Strasuurg,
came in almost a new man, having suffered
for years with Dyspepsia in its worst forms.
He bad been under 13 M. D's. before he tested
Omnipathy.
Catarrh cured for 50 cents.
The remedy sent te anyone en receipt el SO
cents in stamps.
