At nine o'clock this morning the revenue cutter Hamil ton, having en beard the reception com mittee, started down the river te meet the steamer Indiana and escort the new British minister, Hen. Lionel S. Sackville-West, up te the city. The cutter met the steamer opposite League Island, where the com mittee guests bearded her. A reception was held in the cabin by Mr. West. Joel Cook, secretary of the committee, read an address of welcome from the mayor, iu which the latter regretted his inability te be prescut, but tendered the hospitality of of the city te the minister. Anether ad dress was read by J. Price Wethcrill en behalf of the reception committee. Mr. West replied in a few well-chosen sen tenccs, in which the hope was expressed that the present geed feeliug between the United States and Great Britain heretofore prevailing might be lasting, and he assured his listeners that he would le .:'l iu his power te promote that end. This concluded the formalities. A ge n cral introduction then took place. Among these present were the following, most of whom are prominent in business and ship in circles here : Philip Fitzpatrick, Cel. J. N.
