A most pleasurable and brilliant ecca sien was last Thursday evening at the fine country residence of Washington House keeper, esq., at Chestnut Level, it being a birthday party in honor of Sir. House keeper's step-daughter, Miss Annie Alex ander. Miss Alexander 'was the recipient of a large number of varied, useful and leautiful presents; betokening the high esteem with with which alie is regarded among her numerous friends aud relatives. A large number of the guests, besides a goodly home supply, were from Philadel phia, Lancaster and Pottstown, aud com prised a company of fashion, intelligence and refinement yes, and "beauty, such as the country seldom vitncsses. The refreshment table was an acrue of geed taste and geed tastables, of which the company showed a just appreciation by its enthusiastic patronage. And the great kitchen with its smooth aud waxed fleer was just the place te de justice te the excellent music as the hours were danced away. Thcre were all kinds of dances, from the very latest waltz, or "Cotillion bicnt newfrac France." down te a "regular hoc down," with which the festivities ended, having run two lengths into the ' wee sma hours e' night." Just before dispersion Mr. Sanders Cellins accompanied en the piano ferte by his sister Mary, entertained the guests by an excellent vocal lcnditien of "A Flower from My Angel Mether's grave," after which another gentleman sang a humorous 6dng entitled "Handy Andy," and wen the applause of his delighted audience. Miss Alexander should be congratulated upon the succcssfulucss and refinement of her party, and most certainly has the united well wishes oftheso who were se fortunate as te be participants in her reval entertainment, and their hopes, that may J net ee altogether uusclhsh, that she may see " many returns of the day." What we all consider as ene of the most outrageous proceedings that has disgraced our neighborhood for a long while, and stirred up mere honest and outspoken indignation for the act, was tbc seizure by the "Brewu heirs " of a let of tobacco, in all what was grown en about fourteen acres, hanging in the buildings situated en the Brown quarry property at Peach Bettem. Mr. Geerge Whitakcr owns most or the tobacco, but portions of it arc owned by Charles Merris, Sanders. Shank and ethers. They were given verbal per mission, se they allege, by some of " the heirs " te use the buildings, which are new no longer used in the manufacture of slate, te hang their tobacco, aud new it is attached for about twenty-four hundred dollars rent due them by Mr. Harry Yard, efPhiladelphia, who owns part of the quarry and has the Brewu iutercst leased. The Sheriff will sell the tobacco next Friday. We who believe in the unwritten law of right cannot exactly associate the proceedings with justice. Mrs. Susan Ernhart, wife of Jeseph Ernhart, died last week and vras buried at Chestnut Level, Sunday. Can't Preach Geed. Ne man can de a geed job of work, preach a geed sermon, try a law suit well, doctor a patient, or write a geed article when he lecls miserable and dull, with sluggish brain and unsteady nerves, and none should make the attempt in such a condition when it can be se easily and cheaply removed by a little Hep Hitters.
