The Dead KelBrns te Life. , A Reformed Man and Rich Merchant A Sarprlaed and "Sappy Wire. Themas Patterson, brother of United States -District Attorney Patterson, who " disappeared from Baltimore after bidding his young and lovely wife adieu some ten years age, and was long supposed te have been dead, has appeared at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mrs. Patterson is the daughter of Mr. . L. Rice, jr., a wealthy citizen of Wilmington. The newly married pair, after some time, . moved te Baltimore where they lived an ideally happy life for a few years, during which a child was born unto them. Un happily, however, the convivial customs of the Monumental city developed in the hus band a taste which produced the habit of dissipation, and after many resolutions briefly kept and surely broken, Mr. Pat terson, one night about ten years age, in ,. desperation, kissed ins wife and baby and declared tbey should never see him or hear from him again until he was the master of himself and his habits, and able te re store the happy home te which he had first taken his bride. The heartbroken wife came hack te her father's home in Wilmington bringing little Susie, her child .. with her. Patterson's whereabouts, after saying ' "geed by " te his wife, wcre unexplaiucd until his relatives read in a uewspaper the description of an unknown man found dead in Erie, Pa. The body was' sub stantially identified by a brother of Patter son as that of the missing man, the letters T. P. in India ink en his arm being te him conclusive evidence. The body was inter inter red in the family let at Wilmington, ami the tomb cared for and adorned with flow ers, which wcre tenderly watered by the teare of the supposed widow. The dis coveries just made show that Patterson, after falling into disreputable habits, went te Texas and was captured by the Indians. He subsequently escaped and made his way te Michigan, where he amass ed a comfortable fortune. A short time age Mrs. Patterson, who still resides with her parents in Wilmington was sur prised te reccive an envelope bearing the postmark of Grand Rapids, and at once recognized the handwriting of her hus band. The discovery at first seemed like a dream, but when the seal was broken and she hurriedly glanced at the signature her fend hopes wcre fully realized. It con veyed the joyful intelligence lliatr Mr. Themas Patterson is a prosperous mer chant of a large city in Michigan ; the communication further stated that the writer had years age discarded all his bad habits, was leading the exemplary life of an honest, temperate man, and that by strict attention te business he had accumulated a fortune. It is understood that he will return te Wilmington. Mrs. Patterson is still a beautiful woman, and has had many suitors for her baud sincn the supposed death of her husband, all of whom she de clined. LANCASTER HOUSEHOLD .ItAICKET. BA1UT.
