THE TOBACCO MARKET.
SEED. LEAF ASB HAVANA
Ier tbe Wcelt Ending Saturday, August

Kew Yerk Tobacco Journal.
Tbe expectations of another heavy rush
in expert sales were net realized. Ken
tacky tobacco went up suddenly several
cents per pound, owing te the bad crop
rciterts from the West and Seuth, and
lielders of low grades seed leaf became
very stiff and withdrew their stocks from
the market. In home goods a solid busi
ness was done. Prices are creeping up
gradually. Fine goods find ready pur
chasers at geed prices. .
Very seen the prime '80 Pennsylvania
packing will be in the hands of manufac
turers. Second-class goods will then take
their place, and, as was the case with '70
Pennsylvania, sell at as high figures. "We
itued out some time age that te invest
fine '80 stock was a wise policy te pur
tme, as there appeared no reasonable
ground why a fall in figures should oc
cur. Te-day the outlook is the same.
"Leaf tobacco will net be cheaper, unless
the consumption or the yield of the crops
increases, ilie consumption is, Bewuiug-jr,
daily en the increase, and, as far as it is
possible te' judge, the '81 crop does net
exceed that of '80 in any of the tobacco
growing states. Therefere, these who
want geed tobacco should net hesitoteto
invest. The total sales or the week we
pnecify as fellows :
Pennsylvania Crep '80 : 700 cases ; fine

Connecticut Crep '80 : 250 caseB seconds,

cases, p. t. Havana: Market active.
Sales nearly 800 bales. Manufacturers
were the principal buyers. Prices un
changed. Cans' I&sport.
