THURSDAY BVKN'O, MARCH 31, 1881
A Ditch Ylctcry.
TLe ether day a German called en a
grocer te pay a bill, giving him a ten dol

and said :
44 Helle, where did you get this note ?"
"Vetiahde reason mit dose note?"
replied the honest Teuten. " Don't she

44 Geed !" answered the grocer. " Why

44 Py shiminy ! Ish dot se ?'
44 Let me see your bills. Why, every
one of them is a Spinner. Man alive, your

In pursuance of the grocer's advice, Mr.
Schneider called at the sub-treasury te get
the premium en his bills.
What success he had is impossible te
state, but he was seen. later in the even
ing lurking around the street by which the
grocer must go home, aud being accosted
by an acquaintance, the following conver
sation took place :
44Der peoples from Sharmeny fight well,
bein ?"
"Oh yea; the Germans arc unquestion

"Seme big lights, hein ?

Practicing Parliamentary Points.
Mr. Rogers, of Third street, has a seu
Themas who was sent off te Lansing en a
visit some weeks since, and it seems that
the boy pat in much of his time around
the state house and took a deep interest in
the proceedings of the legislative body.
He came home chuck full of parliamentary
tactics. At the dinner tabic he moved te
reconsider the vote by which boiled ham
was placed en the bill of fare, and de
manded the yeas and nays en the ques
tion of a new pair of rubber beets and a
spring velocipede. He liadn't been home
two days bcfoie he observed te his
mother :
44 1 move the previous question en that
hunk of maple sugar in the pantry."
44 Yeu can's have it."
44 But I must. My motion cuts eif all
debate, aud I shall announce the question
as carried in the affirmative."
His father suggested the idea of an
hour's exercise with the axe, but the buy
called for a general expression of opinion
and succeeded in passing a vote te recom
mit the question te the committee en rules
for amendment. Tilings went ou in this
way for a week, and the old man finally
had enough of it and felt called upon te
administer a cautieu.
44 Don't you knew tnat an amendment
takes precedence of the question itself"?"
replied the boy. " I amend as fellows :
"Resolved, That this family recognizes
Cushing's Manual as standard authority
en questions of debate. Are you ready
for the question ?"
44 Ne, sir!" replied the old man.
" De you wish for a call of the Heuse ?"
44 1 wish you te understand that your
talk displeases me !"
44 Well, while I must respect the lights
of the minority I still feel that it would
be a safer plan te table your motion. It
can come up again under the head of ' un
finished business.' "
In about ten minutes the old man was
ready for him in the weed-shed and re
marked :
44 There is a quorum present and wc will
proceed te business.
44 1 move te take a roeegs," rep'ied the
boy as his back began te ache.
44 Can't de it," said the father, as he
hung up his hat. 44 1 am new going into
committee of the whole en the whaling
business, and if I can't tan your jacket in
ten minutes I shall ask leave te sit again.
Stand out here !"
44 Please call mother te tbe chair !"
pleaded the youth, but it was no go. The
old man had a two-thirds vote en him,
and the question was se well settled that
the boy was able te buy two bars of soap
at a grocery that afternoon without a sin
gle allusion te Cashing.
