A-new dish is offered for the epicure te
pass his opinion upon that of English spar
row en toast. As a representative of an
Albany paper was passing one of the city
markets he observed a string of small
birds hanging outside which resembled
the common English sparrow. Upen in
quiry he was informed that the birds were
sparrows, and could be either stewed or
served en toast. They sold for eight cents
a pair.
The novel exhibition of a hundred head
of cattle sliding down a steep hill for a
distance of fifty yards or mere, was one of
the incidents of the sleet storm at Oxford,
Iml. On ariiringat the brew of the hill
Jehn Moere, the herder, endeavored te
step Ihcin irem going ever, but was tee
late. Almest instantly the whole herd
were en their knees, then, falling ever en
their sides, they shot oil' down the hill
with frightful velocity, many of them as
suming the most grotesque attitudes in
their descent. In his effei ts te head them

A singular encounter between a deg and
a donkey occurred recently in 1'lackpoel,
England. The deg iuhed at the donkey
as he was standing in a field, and fastened
en his ne-c. 1 he donkey shook lain oil,
bit him about the head and shoulders, and
tossed him wildly about. The deg again
seized the donkey, and the combatants
could ii' it be separated. After the fight
had lasted half an hour, the owner decided
te have the deg shot, as it had by that
time fastened with a linn held en the don
key's nose. A gun was procured, but se
savage wa- the fight that it was difficult '.e
sheet one animal without killing the ether
also. At last aim was :aken a bullet was
pat into the deg's head, and it dropped te
the gieund. When the smoke cleared
away the deg was dead, but the infuriated
donkey had returned te the charge, kick
ing, biting and tramping en the deg. It
was with great difficulty the donkey was
at last diiveueff.
