Themas Bailey Aldrichrlives at Pouka Peuka Pouka

Massachusetts. Although a very charm
ing place, Ponkapetf was never noted for
its enterpi ihe, ami the location of a rail-

left it very much in the condition of
Bailey's Four Cern's s. desctihcd by Mr.
A.drich hi Iil-s s-tery of "3ii-.s Mehetable's
Sen." The house is an old fashioned two
story lieu-e. built at the heiimu of the
pieseut century, and is partially scieened
from the read by cherry trees and by a
ltcd-je of arbor vita, presided ever by two
ancient and shiftier-looking buttonwoods.
Back of the heits-c the pounds fall away
gently te a stream and an old mill-pond,
en which stand-, a debited and decaying
mill, which w.r.-. utilized dming the late
war for the weavmg of soldiers' cardi
gans. Along the margin of the stream,
which, after wandcriug all leund the
grounds finds its way out iu the Xopou Xepou Xopeu
set meadows and se te the ocean, great
quantities of water cresses and curious
wild (lowers grew, the cowslip and the
pitcher plant among them.

J. T. Trowbridge.
The home of J. T Trowbridge, the poet
and story-teller, is a neat brown wooden
house, two-and-a-half stories high, en
Pleasant street, in Arlington, Mass. Clese
behind it Arlington lake, the Spy Ferd
of hist ei ic fame, winds like a bie.td river
for a distance of a mile or mere. A draw
ing room furnished with elegance and
taste occupies the front lialf of the house,
behind which a large dining room over
looks the pond. Frem the east window
in the Upper room Bunker Hill monument
and the city of Charlestown can be seen,
with a glimpse of old Bosten itself. Frem
the southeast window of the study Mount
Auburn, the city of the dead, Cambridge
observatory, surrounded by the hills of
Brighten and Bioeklinc, form an interest
ing prospect. Arlington lake, which can
be seen liem all the windows en the side
and rear of the house, adenis a scene of
cverchanging variely.

The Stoddards live inNewYeik. iu an
unpretending little house in East Fifteenth

say that it was nearly such a home as all
authors ought te have. It is plainly fur

pictures, most of which were painted by
their artist friends. The books arc all
English, of course, fet the Stoddaidshave
only such education as they have given
themselves ; but they aie all geed
books which arc books," Charles Lamb
