OUIi REGULAR CORRESPONDENCE
It has always been a pleasure te us te
peak of a brilliant intellect when we have
been fortunate cnengh te find the posses
or of one, and especially when it is our
fortune te meet a man who has proved te
his fellow men that the contents of his
pate are of no ordinary " get up." Un
fortunately we have never met the .subject
of this article, but, we believe, our readers
will side with us in placing him with ether
intellectual giants of the day. Resid
ing en North Frent street, within a
tone's threw of the Pennsylvania railroad
dispatcher's office, is a railreaJcr of an ex
perimental turn of mind. Diy before yes
terday he conceived the idea of placing a
can of water within his kitchen stove, ap
parently te witness the consequences. A
quart can was selected for the puipese,
filled with water and placed in the fire,
after the mau had made sure that all the
cracks were stepped up. Then the plates
were carefully replaced en the stove and
the can of water left te its
fate. By and by' the water commenced
boiling, and the man. believing ha
would been see the result of his experi
ment, get his head down te within a few
inches of the stove grate and kept his
eyes firmly riveted en the sacrificed can.
Others of his family, notably the female
portion, were equally interested with him
in the result, and they were all crowding
about the stove when, with a terrific ex
plosion, the sleve was broken into piece?,
the fire scattered all ever the room, the
water can a wreck, and themselves severely
burneJn mere places than one by the
flying coals and iiet pieces of iron the
debris of the once intact stove. The house
came near going up in ablaze, but the fire
was finally extinguished. Tiic experiment
cost just eight dollars, the price of a
new stove, which was furnished by one
of our hardware men. Next.

Restoration et Speech.
Chambersburg Ileposttery.
Fer nine months MfcwLillie 1J. Alter, of
Gteencastle, has been deprived el her fac
ulty of speech and was unable td articulate
above a whisper. She has been under
medical treatment for a len; time, and
recently came te Chauibcrsburg te con
sult the physicians of this place. The
physicians who attended her arrived nt
the opinion, after making a careful ex
amination, that no human power could
cure 'her. Thus being lelt without any
encouragement, aud Iiclicving in answer
te prayer, she placed herself wholly in
the hands of thu Gicat Physician, and
for two months her malady was the sub
ject of earnest prayer. She felt conii cenii
dent the Lord would answer and never
ceased in her supplications te Him.
While in attendance at the revival meet
ings, which are new in progrea in
the Seuth Second Sticct U. 15. church, :t
few evenings age, her speech was restored,
and in a clear and distinct voice shy said,
" Uless the Lord, for he has again given
me my voice." She retired from the church
feeling without doubt, that it was an an
swer te prayer. The restoration has con
tinued up until the present time. We
have the above from a gentleman who had
a conversation with Miss Alter after the
services and we can vouch for the abeve
statement.
