Ad Appeal te Feeil ami i'retct the Bird.
A meeting of the Lancaster County
Game I'retcctivc association tvas lield at
the office of the president, Alderman Spur
rier, last evening. Candidates for the sev
eral offices of the association were put in
nomination, te be voted for at the next
meeting, which takes place en the second
Tuesday of January. A if solution was
adopted to.precure from Xerth Carolina
as many parti idcs as can be ob
tained for stecki'.g the grounds
of the association and ether
parts of the county. In view
of the scveic weather and unusually
heavy and long continued falis of snow it
is feared that most of our native birds
will perish during the winter. Farmers
are urged te protect and feed them as far
as possible. The association eilers te pro
tect and feed duriug the winter all birds
captured and handed te either the presi
dent or fcccrctaty, and obligate themselves
te let the birds loose in the spring, en the
.same grounds en which they arc captured.
It is hoped that farmers who have net fa
cilities te house and feed the birds en their
premises will avail themselves of thi offer
of the association.

Yesterday afternoon Lewis Smith's
heisc, while attached te a sleigh, took
fright iu Arch alley, upset the sleigh,
threw Mr. Smith out, and en reaching
Chestnut Klreet, made a short turn and ran
upon the steps in front of Henry Andrews's
house and wrecked the sleigh. Mrs. Daniel
Erisman was walking en the pavement in
front of Mr. Andicws's at the time, and ;
little girl was standing en the steps, and
yet the horse parsed between them with
out hurting either of them. The- horse
was caught near Prince street.

Mr. C. C. F. Bent, who for several years
was superintendent of the Pennsylvania
railroad between Columbia and Coatcs Ceatcs
ville, is in town en a short visit. He is
new engineer of maintenance of way en
the C. C. and I. railroad between Colum
bus and Indianapolis.
Tlie Corener vs. the County.
Yesterday the coroner held an inquest
and this morning he entered suit against
the comity, before B. P. Grolf, esq., for
the payment of his bill. The commiss
ioners have adopted a resolution by which
the coronet's bills will net be paid for 10
days se that persons may have an oppor
tunity of objecting te them. The coroner
thinks they must be paid whenever pio pie
scntcd and he has, therefore, brought suit.
Kunnliig Away AVith a Sleigh.
Yesterday Bcnj. Snavely aud his sister
Maria, of West Willow, were returning
from Pcqnca Valley when their sleigh was
upset. .Beth were thrown out but net in
jured. The horse ran back te the valley
where he was caught before he had done
auy damage te the sleigh.

Alderman A. F. Dennelly this morning
committed Albert Arndfc te jail te answer
at court the charge of larccncy.

A lair will be given iu Roberts hall, com
mencing February 5, 1881, by the Union equip
ment association, composed of members of the
