The bill for postage alone, we learn, was nearly fifty dollars. Twe copies were sent te each teacher enrolled, one te each of the three hundred and tifty or mere school directors in the county, and one te paeh city, county andhoieugh superintendent in the state. Mr. James Stcwait has left with us a (section of weed, about an inch and a half in diameter and an eighth of an inch thick, sawed from a tree that grows en the Madeira river and in ether paits of Seuth Ameiica and is known as the Vera Cruz, or Tiue Ciess. "When sawed in vertical sections, the weed presents the exact appearance of a Maltccse cress, the interstices between the arms of the cress being filled with a film: of different color and quality fiem that of the cress.
