The United Brethren Sunday-school will
give a musical entertainment en Christ

Methodist Episcopal Sunday-school people
were in a quandary as te what sort of an
entertainment te give ; but they have de
cided upon a pregramme, which, we are
informed, is entirely different from any '
given by them heretofore. It consists
principally of lcspeusive readings by the
.school superintendent and the scholars ;
of speaking by the latter and of singing
Christmas carols. The superintendent
and ether officers of the school will prob
ably make addresses.
The Picsbytciian Sunday-school will
held its exercises en Christmas afternoon
in the church. They will consist of re
ligious songs and readings. We have net
heard of the pregramme decided upon by
the ether Sunday-schools, but they will
appear in geed time.

Thieves broke into tiie house of Jacob
G. Keller, in Point township, en Tuesday
flight, and stele four coats, a knit jacket,
some stockings, a hat aud three pairs of
beets. Three tramps were arrested upon
suspicion en Wednesday, but there was no
evidence te implicate them and they were
discharged.
Dairy Association.
The milk venders have formed an associ
ation for the purpose of protecting them-'
selves against dishonest consumers, and
their custemeis against dishonest dealers.
They have assumed the name of the Lan
caster County Milk Dairy Association ' ' and
elected the following nemed officers :

Sudden Ocatli.
Catherine Abele, aged 61 years, -wife of
Gottlieb Abele, residing ou West Mifflin
street, etic deer from Water street, died
rather suddenly at 11 o'clock this forenoon.
She was taken ill en Sunday and had been
in bed. Yesterday she arose and
was out of bed for a short
time. This merniug she was taken
worse and shortly before 11 o'clock her
husband called in Mrs. Hailstock a neigh
bor, who reached the house just as the
old lady breathed her last. Dr. Foreman
was also sent for, bub was tee late. Heart
disease is supposed te have been the cause

The Tobacco Failures.
The failure of the firms of Friedman &
Ce.. of St. Leuis, and Seidcnberg & Ce.,
of New Yerk and Key West, and some
ethers lately repe;ted, have had a very
depressing effect en the tobacco interest
in this city. The total of Seidenberg's
liabilities, thus far reported, are said
te feet up 750,000. The fact that
Friedman & Ce's books and papers
could net be found by the sheriff when the
safe was broken open, is net calulatcd te
inspire creditors with much confi
dence in the integrity of that
firm. The report in yesterday's pa
per lhat Teller Bres lese 30,000
by the Seidenberg failure is incorrect the
firm losing nothing, wc are informed.
Lachenbruch fc Bre., however, arc said te
be creditors in the sum of 833, 000. and J.
Mayer's Sens te the amount of 107 cases.
The New Yerk creditors appear te think
that the Seidenbergs will be. able
te pay dollar for dollar when
they get their accounts into shape.
The course of the firm was regarded in the
trade as an indication of their entire hon
esty and desire te treat their creditors
most of whom arc Havana firms with
fairness and frankness.
Nothing is doing among our local
deals'is, some of whom are apprehensive
that ether huge houses may be obliged
te succumb. It is conceded alike by
dealers and growers that the late failures
will seriously interfere with the sale of
the ci op of 1SS0.
.Stelen Horses Recovered.
Yesterday afternoon Hirain Peeples, of
'ew Providence, whose two horses were
.stolen from his stables en the night of the
10th in:-t., received information that horses
answering the description of his had been
leumi en tlic toad in L Hester coun
ty, near the Delaware line, and
taken up by a Quaker gentleman.
Mr. Peeples at once went after the horses
and found them at the place stated. The
gentleman who had them and whose
name is net gh en states he found them ou
the read near his place, without riders.
One of the horses was saddled aud the
ether was tied te it with a bridle. It
is believed the thieves were making their
way te Wilmington, and becoming alarmed
from some cause, abandoned the horses,
which were afterwards found and. adver
tised in the Chester county papers, and
;!:; advertisement being seen by a friend
if Mr. Peeples, he was duly noti
fied. Ou one of the stolen horses was a
iridic belonging te Benjamin Hess, who
lives a iniic south of Mr. Peeples s place. It
is believed the thieves intended te steal
