As is generally known, Sir Jehn Lub Lub eock associates exclusively with auls. This is, of course, ci editable te him. Leng age Solemon urged that large and influen tial class of his .subjects, the sluggards, te cultivate the .society of ants, iwl what is geed for a sluggard is geel for ether peo ple. If .Sir Jehn has by honest and honor able means obtained admission te the best circle el aul society, iic is acting wisely te keep up such intimacies with leading ants as he may have formed. When, however, he proceeds te meddle with the social and private affairs of ants he takes an unpar donable liberty. He would net go into a. fellow British haienct's house and dismiss his housekeeper or in ether ways interfere with his domestic arrangements. Neither would he dream of crossing ever te France and upsetting the republic and placing a king or an emperor ou the throne. His sense of delicacy would prevent him from thus meddling with British baronets or neighboring nations, and he must knew that a man is bound by the laws of polite ness whether he associates with ants or human beings. Nevertheless, he has taken it upon himself, te meddle in the most iucxcusible way in the private and public attains of auls, and is se insensible of the indecency of his course that he has actually written a book describing his rude and lawless conduct and mentioning his habit of eavesdropping in order te listen te the conversation of auts. This is simply shameful, and one wonders if Sir Jehn lias any human friends, and if se, hew the could permit him te publish se disgraceful a book. There really seems te be nothing which Sir Jehu Lubbeck docs net censider him self at liberty te de in connection with ants He tells us that he has repeatedly broken into a royal ant palace ami kidnapped the queen. This he had done merely in order te eoe what the auts would de without a queen. He found that after the first excitement following the discovery of their less had subsided the auts established a republic. In every instance the republic proved success ful, and the ants became warmly attached te it. They found that queens were an ex pensive luxury, and were in no sense nec essary, and they seen evinced a hearty dislike of effete monarchical institutions. Sir Jehn, however, would net let them en joy their republic in peace. He placed foreign queens, kidnapped by him from distant ant communities, in the heart of Ins ant republics, and evidently hoped that their authority would be recognized. The republican auts, however, never failed te kill the invading queens, and se fierce was the republican spirit displayed by them that net a reactionary ant ventured te show any sympathy with the royal martyrs. What could be mere atrocious thau Sir Jehn's conduct in this matter ? Net only did he wantonly bring about revolutions in quiet and entcntcd kingdoms, but he also tried te produce counter revolutions iu orderly republics. What can he say in defense of his treatment of the iunecent queens whom he first dethroned and kid napped ana attcrward lured te a violent death by inducing them te act the pait of pretenders? If the man can find any pos sible cxcuEO for himself, the sooner he pre duces it the better it will be for his repu tation among upright and honorable men. Sir Jehn has also forcibly exiled republi can ants, apparently for no ether crime than that of accepting republican institutions after he himself had forced them te de se. On several occasions he removed a colony of ants a long distance from their original home, and when they were demoralized by their calamity he suddenly unfurled the standard of royalty by placing a queen among them. Iu theso circumstances the demoralized auts iuslantly accepted the royal pretender as a savieur of society, and implored her te rule them with strong antenna. Thus, ants that were republican by conviction were juxwpt monarchical iustitu iustitu trens as the only alternative te anarchy. Were bir Jehn te go ever te Paris and cre ate a state of anarchy which would lead the frightened Frenchmen te revive the crtipire, he would knew that he was guilty of violating international law and of med dling in matters which did net concern him. He does net seem te have the least idea that he is acting in an equally repre hensible way toward confiding and lielp iMiants. Sir Jehn also tells us that the ants are habitual liars, and that one will net be lieve another's word. He has often hid behind a currant bush and listened te an ant trying te convince his fellows that he had found a valuable dead beetle. Se lit tle confidence' does an ant place in the ve racity of another ant that in nine eases out of ten the reply te the information about the beetle would be "Oh, that's tee thin' or like expressions of incredulity. Some times the ant thus insulted would succeed in inducing another te fellow him and see if the dead beetle was a reality or a mere campaign story. The incredulous ant would need te be coaxed along, and his want of faith in his conductor would be plainly expressed by his careless aud irres olute manner. .Finally the pair would come within sight of the beetle ; the in credulous ant would brighten up and re mark, "Weill should smile," and would instantly rush te cut a geed sized beetle steak and te take it home te his family. Very likely this is all true, but the ques tion is, ought Sir Jehn, after being admit ted te an ant hill, te abuse the hospitality of his hosts by telling stories reflecting en their veracity ? What if the auts are se much in the habit of lying that no ant will believe another's word if unsupported by evidence ? Is it the part of an honorable man te arrive at the knowledge of this fact by eavesdropping and then te publish it te the world ? Sir Jehn Lubbeck ought te be heartily ashamed of himself, and if he had his deserts he would be invaded by swarms of red ants and bitten until he should openly acknowledge his fault and premise a thorough reformation. Brandy as a Medicine The following article was voluntarily sent te Mr. II. E. Slayniaker, Agent for Reigart's Old Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi cian et this county, who has extensively used the Brandy referred te in his regular practice. It is commended te the attention of these at llicted with Indigestion and Dyspepsia. BRANDY AS A MEDICINE. This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant was never intended as- a beverage, but te be used as a medicine of great potency in the cure of some of the destructive diseases which sweep away their annual thousands of victims. With a purely philanthropic motive we pre sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe cially these nfllicted with that miserable dis ease Dyspepsia, a specilic remedy, which I? nothing mere or less than Brandy. The aged, with feeble appetite ami mere or less debility, will find this slniple medicine, when used properly, A Sovereign Remedy or all-their ills and aches. Be it. heA-evei strictly understood that we prescribe anil ue but one article, and that Is REIGART'S OLD BRANDY, Sold bv our enterprising young friend, II E SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed the test for years, and has never failed, as far as our experience extends, and we therefore give it the preference overall ether Brandies, no matter with hew many jaw-breaking French titles they arc branded. One-fourth of the money that is yearly thrown away en various impotent dyspepsia specifics would sufilec te buy all the Brandy te cure any such case or eases. In proof of the curative powers el Reigart's Old Brandy, In eases of Dyspepsia, we cah summon ntttn bers of witnesses one case in particular we cite: A hard-working larmcr had been afflicted with an exhaustive D vsnensla for a number of yeais; his stomach would reject almost every kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread, and as a beverage he used McGrann's Reet Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new, S reached at times, and in his discourses often echiimed earnestly against all kinds of strong drink. When advised te try Reigart's Old Brandy, In iiis case, he looked up with astonishment, but after hearing et its wonderful effects in the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he at lest consented te fellow our advice. He used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the first bottle giving him m appetite, and before t he second was taken he was a sound man.with a stomach capable of digesting any thing which hi-Jchese te cut. He still keeps it and uses a lit tle occasionally; and, since he lias this medi cine lie has been of very little pecuniary bene fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician. H. E.
