Grays Elegy
T. s. Ferry In December Atlantic.
Extreme elegance and careful composition
ure mere conspicuous in the Elegy than
iu most ether English poems of equal
length. The art is net forced upon the
reader's attention, hut it has doubtless
. preserved a poem in which it is commonly
taidtbnt there is no ether quality of
exceptional greatness. Yet there is a sort
of ungraciousness in that remark, inas
much as it resembles the -well-known
criticism of the man who, when
he first saw " Hamlet" acted, com
mented en the large numbers of familiar
quotations that it contained ; for the Ele
gy is se well known that it seems thereby
somewhat trite and valueless. It seems
se, that is te say, until we read it ever
again, when we cannot fail te enjoy its
beauty. It was at once successful, and
the imitations that it called forth were
numberless. As a general tiling, how
ever, they bear as faint a likeness te the
original as it does itself te Gray's Elegiac
Epistle te a Friend, " written," as we
are told, and can readily believe, " under
a "dejection of spirits." Gray's poem has
been saved from total obscurity only by
the assertion that it inspired Gray te write
his Elegy.

Brandy as a Medicine
The following article was voluntarily sent te
Mr. H. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian et this county, who lias extensively used
the Brandy referred te in his regular practice.
It is commended te the attention of these af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
used as a medicine of great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice et invalids espe
cially these afflicted with that miserable ilis
ease Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, ihich i
nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with feeble appetite ami mete or
less debility, will find this simple medicine,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their ills and aches. Be it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe and use
but one article, and that is
KEIGARTS OLD BRANDY,
Sold by enr enterprising yenng friend, H E
SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed the
test for years, and has never failed, as far
as our experience extends, and w e therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Brandies,
nomattcrwithhewmanyjaw-brcakingFrcncli
titles they aue branded. One-fourth of the
money that la yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia specifics would sullice le
buy all the Brandy te cure any such case or
cases. In proof et" the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Branay,
In cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon num
bcrs of witnesses one case in particular we
cite:
A hard-working tanner had been afflicted
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of
years; his stomach would reject almost every
kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con
stantly ue appetite in fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers anil stale bread,
and as a beverage lie used McGraun's Reet
Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new,
S reached at times, and in his discourses often
eclaimcd earnestly against till kinds of streug
drink. When advised te try
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing et its wonderful effects in
the cases of some of bis near acquaintances, he
at last consented te fellow our advice. He
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
first bottle giving him an appetite, and before
the second was taken he was a sound man.with
a stomach capable of digesting anything winch
liejcliesc te eat. He still kecpsitand uses a lit
tle occasionally ; and since he has this medi
cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene
fit te the doctor. A reACTisiNO Fhvsiciaw.
