Te the Editor of the Times :
Your Ltuirnslcr correspondent, in his let
ter published yesterday, lias wholly mis
represented me in his account of the trans
action relative te the claims of Abraham
Eberly agaiust the estate of Martin Suave
ly, deceased. The facts arc these : Mr.
Eberly had two claims against this estate
one that he held as attorney-in-fact for
Mr.Snavely.the ether a book account of his.
The first the widow had released for a
valuable consideration and the second
was barred by the statute of limitations.
In lav. both claims were worthless, and
Mr. Eberly agreed te -live one-half of
whatever could be collected by suit or
compromise. The claims were collected
and .Mr. Eberly was paid the one-half as
per contract, and his voucher in the
widow's claim stipulates that one-half was
retained as attorney fees. The introduc
tion of in j' name by the writer of the letter
in question was unwarranted if net mali
cious, as my professional reputation is un
impeachable, and te which any reputable
citizen or the members of the Lancaster
will chcctfullv certify.
