The Apple-Crejt TkI9 Tear.

Tbe statements we have from almost
ever tbe entire apple-growing regions of
the country are favorable for tbe best
apple-crop in many years. Of coarse there
are regions where it will be short, and
some where the fruit has suffered from the
effects of insects ; but in general the trees
are net only well-laden with fruit, but it is
of large size and with mere than the usual
freedom from tbe attacks of their common
enemies. Tn the counties around Philadel
phia, while we have known tbe crop te be
as abundant, we de net remember the speci
mens te be larger or mere perfect. We
.saw the ether day a fine, symmetrical tree
leaded with that most beautiful apple and
the very best cf the whole catalogue the
"American Summer Pearmain." It was
quite beyond our knowledge that the varie
ty would "de" here in Pennsylvania.
Pomelogists told us it would net. But
here it was, larger and mere perfect and
of higher quality than we have even seen
or eaten of in Delaware or elsewhere.
Here, tee, ia Pennsylvania, before the
middle of August, it was perfectly ripe,
and would be preferred te almost any apple
that grows. At least we would prefer it.
Seme thirty years age, being at St.
Geerges, Delaware, en a fishing excursion,
wc came acressthis apple for the first time
and made arrangements the following
spring te be furnished with a number of
grafts. These we set en a dwarf apple
trcc, and the following year we distributed
grafts among fiiends in Philadelphia,
Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties.
It may be that the tree above referred te
came from our own stock ; and if it should
be, it is the only one of which we receive
any information. If there are any ethers
wc should like te hear of them.

Don't let such feelings lessen your vigi
lance and efforts one particle.
The Republicans are wide awake and are
working hard.
They don't feel that there is " victory in
the air " for them, and se they work se
much the harder.
That is just what tbe Democrats want
te de, if tlicy desire te have victory at the
polls !
We can elect Hancock and English if wc
will, but wc must work for it. We can't
de it by dreaming and sentimentalizing
about " victory in tbe air."
Wake up, Democrats ! Ge te weik.
Be vigilant, be active and sec that every
man docs his duty.
