WEDNESDAY EVENING, AUG, 4, 1880.
KISbES.
Very sweet the mem'ry of
Buddy lips that I have pressed
'Gainst my own, red-warm with love
Burning underneath my vest.
Than this flaming, mutual love;
There Is something sweeter yet ;
'lis the fadeless mem'ry el
Kisses that I tailed te get.
TO CERTAIN' BUSES.
O rare, red-bosomed roses.
That 'neath my window bloom,
Blush richer new than ever,
Kxlialc your best perfume.
There Is no flower breathing.
That envies net your doom doom deem
To perish In the presence
Of well I won't say whom !
Farm aad (tardea.
Seasonable Nete for Del vers la the Seil.
The Poultry Monthly, of Albany, N. Y.,
gives, tlic following directions for feeding
poultry : "All kinds of fowls should have
sufficient feed given them, regularly, two
or three times a day. If confined they
should be led oftener than when at liberty.
Full grown fowls should have just as
much as they will readily eat and no mere.
The feed should eensist of eats, ground
and uugreund, barley meal and corn, mid
dlings, bran and buckwheat, pieces of
bread and vegetables of all kinds, scraps
of meat chopped line ; bone meal and milk,
cither fresh or thick, will fatten or make
hens lay if there is any fattening or laying
te them." There are many ways published
from time te time te " bring-up " chicks
and manage grown fowls, but the forego
ing appears te be all that is necessary.
Try it.
Seme celebrated reporter of agriculture,
in the height of his conceit, exclaims :
"Give me geed cornfeddcr, meal and
shorts fed with it and I can make mere and
a letter quality of milk than I can with
the same quantity of grain with hay."
This is the testimony of Mr. Wilbur, the
proprietor of the well-known " Lc Ment
Farm" near Newport, R. I., and then
some equally great man adds, " It is in
general the testimony of all farmers who
have made thorough trials of the feeding
of fodder corn in dairies where the manu
facture of milk is the leading object." We
should say, humbly, and almost in a whis
per, give dairy cattle either one or the
ether they will de their " level best," as
Herace Greeley, who invented the phrase,
used te say. Anybody with a grain of
sense, mixed with cither corn meal, shorts.
hay and se-forth, would net hesitate long
te conclude that en such provender the
" milk and cream and buttcrweuld be forth
coming. What does Bailey, of Billerica,
with his soles and ensilage say te this?
August is the best time for setting-out
new beds of strawberries. Seme persons
defer it te September; but in order te get
a pretty fair crop next year, it is better te
transplant in August, Mid perhaps the
earlier the better. It is hardly worth
while te enter upon any particulars in
making a strawberry bed, the fruit has be
come se common that it is grown in al
most every garden. It is well te dig deep
ly, pulverize well, manure liberally with
stable dung ; set out the plants when they
are wished te be grown in hills, in rows
2 feet apart and the plants about fifteen
inches in the lows. The tops and
a portion of the roots should be
pi uned pretty well, the plants set rather
shallow, and the soil be firmly pressed
about them. The situation should be
rather dry, and the plants should be cov
ered lightly in the winter with straw
manure from the horse stable. There arc
a number of varieties that will produce
geed crops, there net being nearly as much
tlilicrcucc in the flavor as some suppose.
Se far as our ewu experience gees, we like
the Captain Jack as well as any ether.
Seth Heyden is geed ; the Sharplcss Seed
ling is considered among the best ; then
there arc Triemphc dc Gand, Monarch
of the West, .Tucunda, Charles Downing,
Crescent Seedling, Wilsen's Seedling, &c.
The army worms, says the Rev. Thes.
McCormick, of Baltimore, who is new in
his 00th year, suddenly made their ap
pearance in the year 1800. A line wheat
field adjoining the Ncwlin mill property,
was the first attacked. They were count
less m numbers, and, after stripping the
wheat, continued their march into the ad
joining weed-lands, which they left entire
ly denuded of foliage and presenting the
appearance as if a mighty hail storm had
passed through the weeds. The wheat
field had at the cast end a running stream
of water that the worms could net have
crossed, se that the eggs must have been
deposited in the wheat by the moths.
X. Mcltnc, Wyebridf?c. Ontario, writes : "I
have sold large quantities of Dr. Themas'
Eclectic Oil ; it is umkI for colds, sere threat,
croup, &c, ami. in fiict, for any affection of the
threat it works like music. It is a Mire cure for
burns, wounds and bruises." Fer sale by II.

Brandy as a Medicine.
The lollewlng article was voluntarily sent te
Mr. H. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian el tliis county, who has extensively used
the Brandy referred te In his regular practice.
It Is commended te the attention of these af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
used as a medicine of great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With a. purely philanthropic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice Ol invalids espe
cially these afflicted with that miserable uia uia
ciise Dyspepsia, a specific remedy, which Is
nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with teeble appetite and mere or
less debUity, wiU find this simple medicine,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their Ills and aches. Be It, however
strictly understood that we prescribe and use
but one article, and that Is
REIGARTS OLD BRANDY,
Sold by our enterprising young friend, H E
SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed the
test for years, and has never failed, as far
as our experience extends, and we therefore
give it the preference ever all ether Brandies,
no matter with hew many Jaw-breaking French
titles they are branded. One-fourth of the
money that is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia specifics would suffice te
buy all the Brandy te cure any such case or
cases. In proof of the curative powers et
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In cases et Dyspepsia, we can summon num
bers of witnesses one case In particular we
cite: . . . , . .
A hard-working tanner had been afflicted
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ter a number of
years: his stomach would reject almost every
kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con
stantly no appetite In fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he used McGrann's Beet
Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new,
preached at times, and in his discourses often
declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong
drink. When adviscute try
Reigartrs Old Brandy,
In his case, he looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful effects In
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, he
at last consented te fellow our advice. He
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
first bottle giving him an appetite, and before
the second was taken he was a sound man, with
a stomach capable of digesting anything which
he chose te eat. He still keeps it and uses a lit
tle occasionally; and since he has this medi
cine he has been of very little pecuniary bene
fit te the doctor. A Pbacmsibe Physician.
