The viceroy summoned his council in haste the instant the news of the disaster ar rived, and although some hepe was express ed that the report of the losses had been exaggerated, there is nothing in the latest news at hand te encourage the hepe that any considerable body of infantry at least has escaped. The chief anxiety at present is for the safety of Canadahar. The less of this city would be a terrible blew te us and a frightful misfortune te the inhabitants, as the city would certainly be pillaged and destroyed by Ayoob Khan's troops. Frem Cabul wc learn that com. plicatiens are arising at Ghuzuce, and thcre can be no doubt that the defeat will exercise an immense effect en the situation at Cabul.
