Twe sat down In the morning time, One te sing and one te spin. All uicn listened the song sublime But no one listened the dull wheel's dm. The singer she sat In a pleasant nook, And sang of a lite that was fair and sweet. While the spinner sat with a steadfast leek Busily plying her hands and feet. The singer sang en with a rose In her hair. And all men listened her dulcet tone ; And the (.pinner spun en with a dull despair Down in her heart as hhe sat alone. But le! en the morrow no one said Aught or the singer or what she sang. Men were saying, " Beheld this thread !" And loud the praise of the spinner rang. The world has forgotten the singer's name Her rose has faded, her Bengs are old ; But far o'er tne ocean the spinner's fame Tet is blazoned in lines et geld. Ella WJicclcr. CLOTHING. The People says that a gentleman anx ious te ascertain tlie effect of transplant ing" fruit trees in daylight anil at night, removed ten cherry trees while in bloom, around the roots of each was a quantity of soil. It was noticed that these inncniinfixl at tiiirlit retained their bles sems and bore fruit, while the ethers failed te bear. The same result is stated te have followed the removal of ether fruit-trees. Absence of the suuand the cool and damp atmosphere of the spring evening have a tendency te prevent the less of vigor in growing plants and trees immediately after removal, which perhaps accounts for these thriving best that were transplanted at night. A remedy for plant lice upon the tcrnn nal sheets of rose bushes, or similar hardy plants, said te work like a charm, is as fellows : Take four ounces of quassia chips, and boil for ten minutes in a gallon of water. Take out the chips and add four ounces of soft soap, which should be dissolved in it as it cools. Stir well before using, and apply with a moderate sized paint biush, brushing upward. Ten min utes after, syringe the tree with clean water te wash off the dead insects and the preparation which would otherwise disfig ure the rose tree.
