HENRY OF NAVARRE BEFORE PARIS.
SIXTEENTH CEJrrCBY.
Down upon the 'leaguered town
With forty thousand men )ic rode :
The fields were bare, the meadows brown,
The starving cattle faintly lowed.
Hut conquering here lie rode down
As if te hawk and bells he rode
While fields were bare and meadows brown
And starving cattle faintly lowed.
Andjust without the 'lea?uered town
They pitched their tents along the read.
Or in the field and meadows brown
W here starving cattle faintly lowed.
Day after day they stormed the town ;
Day utter day he laughing read
Acress the fields and meadows brown
Where starving cattle faintly lowed.
One clay from out the 'leaguered town
There Littered forth along the read,
Aud by the fields and meadows brown
Where starving cattle faintly lowed,
A wretched throng. The 'leaguered town
Has cast aside its useless lead,
And by the fields and meadows brown
Where starving cattle faintly lowed.
They faltered up, they faltered down.
Half dazed with fear, along the read.
Then, by the fluids and meadows brown
Where starving cattle laiutly lowed.
The here who had stormed the town
Day alter day, and careless rode
Day after day by meadow h brew n
Where starving cattle faintly lowed.
With swift sharp strokes came riding dnu n
Along the w hite and dusty read,
Unheeding still the mcadnv- brown,
The -larvlug cattle a tin y lowed.
His face was -.el beneath a liewn ;
His laughing eye-, that had bestowed
Ne glance upon the meadows brown
Whuie stai ving cattle faintly lowed,
New fierce yet soft looked -hilling down
Upen the groups that thronged the read.
ISlind te the meadows bare and brown.
Deaf 10 the eattle as they lowed,
III- great heart suddenly bore down
The conqueror's piide, and back lie rode.
Past all the field- ami meadow- brown
Where starving cattle faintly lowed.
He feci the people of the town
These famished groups that thronged the read,
And through the fields and meadows brown
He called the cattle as they lowed.
And Ted them all. Then from the town
He turned away, and lightly rode
Past all the fields and meadows brown.
With taee that -hone and eyes that glow eil.
Virc IHni!"1 he cried, "I'll take no town
By famine's scourge; a fairer read

Brandy as a Medicine.
The following article was voluntarily sent te
Mr. II. E. Slaymaker, Agent for Reigart's Old
Wine Stere, by a prominent practising physi
cian ei tins county, wne nas extensively useii
the Brandv referred te in Ids resrular practice.
It is commended te the attention of these af
flicted with
Indigestion and Dyspepsia.
BRANDY AS A MEDICINE.
This new much abused Alcoholic .Stimulant
was never intended as a beverage, but te be
useii as a medicine of great potency in the cure
of some of the destructive diseases which
sweep away their annual thousands of victims.
With amirelv nhilanthrenic motive we pre
sent te the favorable notice of invalids espe
cially these altlictcd with that miserable dis
ease Dyspepsia, a specme remeuy, wuicii is
nothing mere or less than
Brandy.
The aged, with feeble appetite and mere or
less ueeuiiy, win una ims simple iiieiuciiic,
when used properly,
A Sovereign Remedy
or all their ills and aches. Be it, however
strictly understood that we prescribe and use
but one article, and that is
KEIGARTS OLD BRANDY,
Sold by our enterprising young friend, Hi E
SLAYMAKER. This Brandy has steed the
test for years, and has never failed, as far
as our experience extends, and we therefore
give It the preference ever all ether Brandies,
no matter with hew many jaw-breaking French
titles they are branded. One-fourth of the
money that Is yearly thrown away en various
impotent dyspepsia specifics would suffice te
buy all the Brandy te cure any such ease or
cases. In proof of the curative powers of
Reigart's Old Brandy,
In cases of Dyspepsia, we can summon tium
bers of witnesses one case in particular we
cite:
A hard-werklntr farmer had been atllicted
with an exhaustive Dyspepsia ler a number of
years; his stomach would reject almost every
kind of feed; he had sour eructatiens con
stantly ue appetite In fact, he was obliged te
restrict his diet te crackers and stale bread,
and as a beverage he Used McGranu's Reet
Beer. He is a Methodist, and then, as new,
preached at times, and in his discourses etten
declaimed earnestly against all kinds of strong
drink. When advised te try
Relgart's Old Brandy,
In his case, lie looked up with astonishment,
but after hearing of its wonderful etrccts in
the cases of some of his near acquaintances, lie
at last consented te fellow our advice. He
used the Brandy faithfully and steadily; the
first bottle uiviuir him an appetite, and before
tlfe second was taken he was a sound man. with
a stomach capable of digesting anything which
he chose te cat. He still keeps it and uses a I it
tie occasionally; and since he has this medi
cine he has been et very little pecuniary bene
fit te the doctor. A Practising Physician.
