THE KOBMAL SCHOOL.
The Summer Vacation-Claw Bunlon Bunlen
Meetlnfc of the Alumni-Larce Attend
ance Commencement Bxer
cUea Te-morrow.
Te-day the normal dens its annual
holiday attire, the recitations for
the school year of 'T9-'80 closing
yesterday." The students, imbued
with that sense of relief which generally
fellows a lone seige of hard study, this
morning wen: gathered in groups en the
green sward of the campus, conversing
with thehe who have been fellow students
and classmates, and te whom they are
about te say farewell for several months.
Little knots were eathered here and there
discussing tneir different plans for
spending their vacation and what grand
times they expect te have before returning
te their labors next fall. The stately sen
iors ean easily be discerned by their grave
countenances, tinged with a feeling of re
gret, occasioned doubtless by the thought
of the pleasant stay they have had at the
normal, and of the stern realities of life as
they catch a glimpse of their rising dimly
before their imagination. The teachers
arc busy as bees, llittiug hither and thith
er among the crowd, bidding farewell te
these about departing, and welcoming
faces that have been absent from that in
stitution for many years, but who have
come" te-day, many for the first time since
graduation, te visit their alma mater. The
iiuinler of strangers attending the com
mencement this year is exceedingly large.
Parents, friends and former students are
here by the scores and each newly arriving
car swells the number.
Contrary te the expectation, the class
day exercises, a new feature at the Nor Ner
mal, were unavoidably postponed en ac
count of cenllicting with the meeting of
the alumni. Beth were te be held in the
chaiiel this evening, but owing te the con
flicting and partly te a want of time te
prcpaie, the class exercises weic taken
from the pregramme greatly te the regret
of many.
This afternoon the alumni association
held their biennial meeting in the chapel.
V. I). Weaver, esq., class of 'C8, of Lan
caster, delivered the salutatory address.
He was followed by Miss Elizabeth
Dickey, class of '00, of Fainneunt, AV.
Va., with an essay en " Perfect Weman
heed." This evening several classes
held reunions. Tomorrow is commence
ment day proper, the cxcrcucs beginning
at 'J::i0 o'clock in the morning. Twe ses
sions will lie occupied hi delivering the
.rations and in the reading of essays. Of
the elas, numbering :7, but 14 are ou the
pregramme as taking part in the exercises.
.Seven of this number are ladies, and the
remaining seven are gentlemen. A full
account will appear in te-morrow's paper.
Tin Trouble at Washington.
The trouble in Little Washington,

terday the borough supervisor, accom

bia, and three men went te the resi
liences of Milten and Jeseph Shultz, Cyrus
ShulU and Harry Seiple for the purpose
of removing their fences. They were met,
however, by a strong feicc of men and did
net attempt te de the weik. This morn
ing the constable and nine Columbia men
again went te Washington for the purpose
of assisting in the removal of the
fences. Their coming was net un
expected, however, and when they
went te the houses they found a large
erawd of men assembled, who were armed
with pistols, guns and clubs, and who
were determined te resist them. The su su su
pervisor, censtable and then men were again
compelled te give up their plans. Werd
was sent te Squire Frank, of Columbia,
who ami: te Lancaster te take legal ad
vice in the matter this afternoon. It is
said that the men who resisted will be ar
r -sted.
