The New Building te be Krected In ttee Col
lege Grounds.
Philadelphia Press.
Plans have already been prepared for
the new building te be erected en the
Girard college creunds west of the chapel.
It will be of the college Gothic style of
architecture, the exterior Being lacea wun
white marble. The interior will be plain,
but of a substantial character, the stairs
te be iron and the corridors leading there
to of lire-proof construction. Steam is te
be used far heating and the ventilation
will be perfect in every detail. The build
ing will be 300 feet in depth, running
north and south, with a frontage of 80 feet
in depth from the north end by
.10 feet in depth. This portion will
be three stories in height and will
contain the sleeping apartments, dormi
tories, baths and the office of the matron,
with general storage rooms for supplies,
&c. The dining hall will adjoin and be a
building in itself, having accommodations
for feeding 1,000 boys. It will be 93 feet
in width by 120 feet in length, with dining
room and kitchen apartments, offices,
dining rooms, bcullcries and dining room
for servants, covering an additional area
or CO by 140 feet. It will be a one room
apartment, lighted and ventilated by a
central lantern, the kitchen attached being
also one story high, and the offices adjoin
ing en cither side being for servants' bed
rooms. Beneath the dining hall will be
the basement, which will be made a cellar
story by areas en either side. This will be
the gymnasium. It is te be erected west
of the chapel.
